BATANG BERJUNTAI: The by-election for the Ijok state seat, which will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s K. Parthiban and Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, has gotten off to a ‘hot’ start. 

A fracas ensued between Barisan and supporters before nominations at the Batang Berjuntai Community Centre yesterday morning, which needed the intervention of FRU personnel. 

Stones, sticks and bottles were hurled at each other by both Barisan and supporters.

> Both Barisan and claimed that the other side started the fracas; 

> police chief DCP Ismail Omar has reminded both sides to display maturity during campaigning; 

> Perlis Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim was hit by mineral water bottle; 

> Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein and his deputy Khairy Jamaluddin criticised the opposition’s scare tactics; 

> Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri says that he will answer allegations made against him over the Altantuya murder case “within the context of the law.”
