The Indian government is giving out scholarships to children of Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) for undergraduate professio­nal and general courses in India during the 2010-11 academic year.

The undergraduate courses include engineering, architecture, technology, humanities, liberal arts, commerce, management (business administration and business management), journalism, hotel management, agriculture/ animal husbandry, sciences and law.

There are no scholarships for medical and related courses.

“The scholarships will cover 75% of the institutional cost which includes tuition fee, hostel fee and other institutional charges or US$3,600 (RM11,980), whichever is less,” said the Indian High Commi­ssion here in a statement yesterday.

Candidates would only be eligible if their total family income does not exceed US$2,250 (RM7,488).

“Children of NRIs should have pursued at least three years of education inclusive of 11th and 12th grade or equivalent (not beyond) in a foreign country the last six years and passed the qualifying examination abroad,” it said.

Eligibility:
Age: Applicants in the age group of 17 to 21 years as on 1st October 2010 are eligible to apply for SPDC 2010-11 i.e. applicants born on or after 1st October 1989 and before 1st October 1993 are eligible to apply for the year 2010-11.

Academic Qualification:
Candidates with 60% aggregate marks or equivalent grades in Higher Secondary (12th standard) or equivalent i.e. ‘A’ Levels, STPM, etc., as recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), are eligible to apply. The candidates must have studied the prescribed essential subjects at the qualifying examination level to pursue a particular course of study.

3. Khazanah Cambridge Scholarship
The Khazanah-Cambridge Scholarship provides financial sponsorship to Malaysians who plan to study for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge.

The Khazanah-Cambridge Scholarship, established in 2009, is jointly sponsored by Yayasan Khazanah, the Cambridge Commonwealth Trust and the Malaysian Commonwealth Studies Centre.

The Khazanah-Cambridge Scholarship is a part of leadership development programme that is aimed at building Malaysia’s future leadership talent. Recipients of this scholarship are expected to not only demonstrate academic excellence, but also develop their leadership skills through training and participation in a number of activities.

1. Taiwan Scholarship Program 2010 (applicants can choose any university in Taiwan)

This scholarship will allow 10 Malaysians to pursue a Bachelor, Master or Doctoral Degree of their choice at any university in Taiwan starting from September 2010. The award period for each study program varies as follows:

Undergraduate program: maximum 4 years, monthly stipends NT$25,000
Master’s program: maximum 2 years, monthly stipends NT$30,000
Doctoral program: maximum 3 years, monthly stipends NT$30,000

All successful scholarship candidates can choose additional pre-degree Mandarin Language Enrichment Program (LEP) for 1 year with monthly stipends NT$25,000

2. Taiwan ICDF International Higher Education Scholarship Programs 2010 (applicants can only choose from 16 cooperative universities and specific departments) The application deadline is according to the universities repectively.
This scholarship is provided by TaiwanICDF (Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund) and will allow Malaysians to pursue a Bachelor, Master or Doctoral Degree in 16 cooperative universities and their specific departments. All programs are taught in English.
TaiwanICDF will provide airfare to Taiwan, dormitories, tuition fee and monthly allowance as follows:

Undergraduate’s Program: monthly allowance NT$12,000
Master Program: monthly allowance NT$15,000
Doctoral Program: monthly allowance NT$17,000

Overview
This internship scheme, previously known as the ELS-TESOL Internship Scheme, is aimed at final year university students in a TESL/TESOL Degree Programme. It comprises of a scholarship worth RM4,500, an internship of 3 months in ELS Language Centres, Malaysia followed by immediate employment as an English Language Instructor.

Who is Eligible?
Candidates who wish to apply for this scheme must meet the following requirements:

a) Only Malaysian citizens are eligible to apply
b) Age 21 years and above
c) Final year university student in a TESL/TESOL Degree Programme
d) Only undergraduates reading for a first degree are eligible to apply
e) Possess good academic qualifications and should be active in school
f) Has CGPA 3.2 and above
g) Is not bonded by other scholarships
h) Preferably with recommendation from lecturer

Overview
This scholarship is open to all SPM and Malaysian university graduates who would like to improve their English in the shortest period of time using the most effective ELS methods. It is intended for Malaysians who need financial support and/or show excellent results and potential academically.

The scholarship comprises of 4 months of tuition valued at RM6,550.

Who is Eligible?
Candidates who wish to apply for this scheme must meet the following requirements:

a) Only Malaysian citizens are eligible to apply.
b) This scholarship is intended for graduates of SPM level or higher
c) A scholarship holder must accept to be enrolled as a full-time candidate in the Certified Intensive English Programme at ELS for a minimum of 4 months (1 semester / 16 weeks )
d) A scholarship holder must participate in research surveys and studies performed by UPM
e) A scholarship holder must take up the scholarship in the semester for which it is offered

The Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE), in cooperation with the GE Foundation (USA), invites applications for the 2009/10 GE Foundation Scholars-Leaders Program open to qualified undergraduates who gain admission into Malaysian institutions of higher learning in the field of Business, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics at local universities. The award is limited to students accepted to Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak & Universiti Malaysia Sabah. The GE Foundation established the scholarship fund as part of its philanthropic activity to encourage and support outstanding talents in countries where General Electric has offices and factories. Applications from ALL ethnic groups are highly encouraged.

NATURE OF AWARD
Candidates accepted by a Malaysian institute of higher learning towards a bachelors degree as a first year student for the academic year 2009 will be considered for the award.

This award is for candidates who will not be receiving any financial assistance from other organizations.

Must be a Malaysian citizen majoring in Business, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics and Physics at local university. The award is limited to students accepted to Universiti Malaya, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak & Universiti Malaysia Sabah.

Three awards will be available for the year 2009/10.

The scholarship amount is USD 2,000 renewable up to 3 years, not including the first year of the degree program, based on certification of a continuing outstanding academic performance report received from the Dean of the university where enrolled.

3. MAKLUMAT PROGRAM IJAZAH SARJANA MUDA PERGURUAN (PISMP)
3.1 Program ini dikhususkan untuk melatih guru-guru di Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) dalam pelbagai bidang bagi keperluan di sekolah rendah.
3.2 Sebagai prasyarat, calon dikehendaki mengikuti Kursus Persediaan selama satu tahun enam bulan di Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) yang ditetapkan oleh Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia.
3.3 Calon perlu lulus Kursus Persediaan sebelum ditawarkan untuk mengikuti Program Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan selama empat tahun di Institut Pendidikan Guru untuk Pendidikan Rendah.

4. CARA MEMOHON
4.1
Permohonan hanya boleh dibuat secara atas talian (online) dengan melayari laman sesawang Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia di alamat : http://www.moe.gov.my mulai 08 Februari 2010.
4.2
Permohonan atas talian boleh dibuat dengan menggunakan Nombor Pengenalan Individu (PIN) yang boleh dibeli di Bank Simpanan Nasional di seleuruh negara dengan bayaran RM 6.00 (Ringgit Malaysia Enam sahaja) melalui saluran kaunter, ATM dan perbankan Sistem Maklumat Ringkas (SMS).

Pemohon dinasihatkan melayari laman sesawang tersebut bagi mendapatkan maklumat iklan, bidang pengkhususan dan gred minimum serta kalendar aktiviti sebelum membuat permohonan.

4.4 Calon dibenarkan mengemukakan SATU permohonan sahaja.
4.5
Calon boleh menggunakan nombor PIN yang sama untuk membuat pindaan butiran kepada permohonan yang telah dihantar. Pindaan butiran permohonan dihadkan tiga kali sahaja dan hendaklah dibuat sebelum tarikh tutup permohonan.
4.6 Maklumat yang tidak benar dan tidak lengkap boleh mengakibatkan permohonan ditolak.

7. MAKLUMAN DAN PERHATIAN
7.1 Calon yang dipanggil temu duga dikehendaki menduduki ujian Inventori Sahsiah Keguruan (INSAK) semasa menghadiri temu duga.
7.2 Pemilihan calon untuk mengikuti kursus perguruan adalah bergantung kepada kedudukan pencapaian merit skor akademik, prestasi dan temu duga dan keputusan ujian INSAK. Keputusan oleh Jawatankuasa Pemilihan aalah muktamad.
7.3
Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia berhak menawarkan program atau bidang pengajian bukan pilihan dan menempatkan calon yang berjaya di mana-mana Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG).
7.4
Calon dinasihatkan menyemak status permohonan mereka dari semasa ke semasa untuk status panggilan temu duga dan juga tawaran ke IPG yang ditetapkan.
7.5
Tiada surat menyurat dikeluarkan untuk panggilan temu duga. Segala perbelanjaan dan risiko menghadiri temu duga adalah tanggungjawab calon sendiri.
7.6
Surat tawaran rasmi bagi calon yang berjaya akan diserahkan di IPG yang ditetapkan oleh Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia setelah calon melapor diri di IPG.

8. PENDAFTARAN

Calon-calon yang ditawarkan untuk mengikuti Kursus Persediaan akan mendaftar di Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) paa 28 Jun 2010 (tarikh tertakluk kepada pindaan). Calon yang telah ditemu duga dan tidak menerima sebarang maklumat dalam tempoh satu (1) bulan selepas tarikh pendaftaran adalah dianggap tidak berjaya. Bahagian ini tidak akan mengeluarkan maklumat secara bersurat kepada calon.

9. IKATAN PERJANJIAN PENDIDIKAN GURU

Calon yang ditawarkan mengikuti kursus di Institut Pendidikan Guru adalah tertakluk kepada ikatan Perjanjian Pendidikan Guru seperti yang telah ditetapkan oleh Kementerian Pelajaran Malaysia. Calon hendaklah bersetuju dan patuh dengan kontrak perjanjian untuk berkhidmat di mana-mana sekolah atau institusi pendidikan termasuk di kawasan pedalaman seperti yang diarahkan oleh pihak kerajaan setelah tamat berkursus.
