3 Indians EXCOs remain a dream

Earlier, NST reported that there may be 3 Indian EXCO’s in Perak, with DAP “allocating” 2 seats out of 6, and PKR “allocating” 1 out of 3. There were even confident words from a DAP “insider” as well in the report.

As it went, in the end only ONE Indian was sworn in on Saturday – Sivanesan from DAP. Both Sivakumar and Sivasubramaniam were left with wishful thinking only. What happened to DAP’s 2 “allocated” seats? Did they chose the best men/women for the job?  So  it ended up as 5-1, instead of 4-2.

The PKR’s “allocation” to an Indian, expected to be Kesavan, was instead given to a Malay.  Instead of 1-1-1, it became 2-1-0.

Initially, it would have been 5 Chinese (4 DAP, 1 PKR), 3 Indians (2 DAP, 1 PKR) and 3 Malays (1 PKR, 1 PAS, 1 MB from PAS). I guess having same number of Malay and Indians as EXCOs is too much to take; the palace and NGOs may create more problems. So, Indians are once against sacrificed.

I would like to think that the actual reason is not the above. I wish the actual reason is that the BEST were selected. Were they?

MK reported that:

After much speculation and deliberation on the line-up among the three parties of the coalition state government, Perak’s state executive councillors were finally sworn this morning. Bernama reported that six state assemblymen from DAP, three from PKR and one from PAS took their oath of office as state excos before the Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, at Istana Iskandariah at 11.10am.

The DAP assemblymen were Ngeh Koo Ham (Sitiawan), Nga Kor Ming (Pantai Remis), Su Keong Siong (Pasir Pinji), Chen Fook Chye (Keranji), Seah Leong Peng (Pasir Bedamar) and A Sivanesan (Sungkai).

Meanwhile the PKR assemblymen were Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi (Behrang), Tai Sing Ng (Kuala Sepetang) and Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering) and the PAS assemblyman was Mohd Zainudin Mohd Yusof (Lubuk Merbau).

All the assemblymen were handed their letters of appointment after which they were sworn in and signed them before palace officials and their Barisan Nasional contemporaries.

No portfolios announced

This ended speculation on the alleged discord among the coalition partners on the formation of the state government and distribution of the executive council posts. However, no announcement was made on the portfolios of the councillors or the two posts of deputy mentri besar.

During the general election on March 8, DAP secured the highest number of seats in the state assembly with 18, followed by PKR with seven and PAS with six.

While the coalition government overcame its first hurdle of supporting the Sultan’s selection of the mentri besar from PAS, it has since been scrambling to resolve the allocation of exco posts.

Immediately after Pasir Panjang assemblyperson Mohamad Nizar Jamaluddin was named menteri besar and took his oath of office on March 17, he announced that two deputies would be appointed. According to Nizar, the two posts were to be filled with representatives of the Chinese and the Indian community respectively. However, this plan has purportedly faced resistance from the palace.

It is understood that a tussle has also arisen over the distribution of portfolios among the incoming exco.DAP has publicly hinted that it is keen for its representative to be given the portfolio on land matters – one of the most powerful and important positions in the state.

Meanwhile, PAS has argued that the portfolio is usually held by the mentri besar, as is also the case in the DAP-led Penang government and PKR-led Selangor government.

NST did not refer back to its earlier report when its article came out in the morning and also when it was updated later in the day.

From an initial 8 seats for DAP, it has become 6. PKR increased from 1 to 3, and PAS gets the MB post. How can DAP is being so cooperative and willing to let go? Have they been promised better things in the future? Deputy Prime Minister post maybe?

Led down again !!!!!! So, Indians are once against had been sacrificed….DAP – PKR you owe a legitimate explanation to the Indian community…You have proven again that you are no better than the old rickety rusty BN….Who is the Indian community to trust now? …We, Makkal Sakhti went all out to ensure that BN will be wiped off in this round only to realize that we have again been short changed…Please don’t forget that if there has been no Makkal Sakhti, the opposition would not have secured such a tremendous victory. Shouldn’t we expect that we should be rewarded accordingly for the support extended ? The Indians had once again been made sacrificial lambs for the glory of others ? Marginalization and discrimination still continues but this time by a different party now .. So what is the point if the Indians number themselves only as Assemblymen without carrying more EXCOs …would you expect us to support you in next GE? Sure there will be no votes for you or the rusty demeaning BN…
We will just end up casting protest votes or abstain from voting to send strong message that Indians could not taken for a ride forever & ever..

    ANNOYED & DISAPPOINTED

  2. Killer says:

I hate to say this but I told you guys so right ??

I had been warning you guys before the GE that voting for Opp will only kill Indians but you jokers won’t listen.

In fact this is just a beginning, just wait and see what more Indians got to lose.

You guys had casterated MIC and for all intents and purposes the MIC reps in the govt (ministers and MPs) are just make-weights. No one going to take seriously what MIC got to say after the GE debacle. Dr SS Subra is a political lightweight, he is not even in the CWC and has no grassroot support either. How can we expect him to stand up to the other races in the cabinet, unlike the “Macho Man” Samy (however much some ppl hate him).

As for the so-called Barisan Rakyat, among the PKR,DAP and PAS there are so much conflicts going on that they have no time for Indians. You think Anwar is bothered about Indians ? Yeah, he can sing and dance like MGR and Rajini but that is for your vote. After GE he has turned into an Anniyan…

So now Makkal Sakthi, are you sleeping now ?? Wake up from your slumber and start to question the people you had elected.

  3. Killer says:

Makkal Sakthi, now how about a Rose Campaign for our ex-DPM ?

  4. poobalan says:

rose should be for ex-dpm or for the palace?

  5. killed says:

to killer … i agree with what you say about the fact that it’s going to be a lot harder for indians because of the lesser representation in the parliament .. but what you said about dr.subra is totally wrong … excuse me … he is a cwc member and for your information he secured the third highest number of votes for the cwc in the previous party elections … judging by that we can all agree that he has the grassroot support … and i think it’s high time the indians get an intellectual in the cabinet … dr.subra’s active involvement in the HYO and the hindu sangham and everything only proves the fact that he is very concerned about the indian community … so if samy vellu isn’t there i feel the next best man to represent indians in the cabinet would be dr.subra … so for the good of the indians … if we want to reap benefits and if we want proper support from the government i suggest we give our support to dr.s.subramaniam and the mic … because the harder we make it for them …. the harder we make it for us …

I have some good suggestion on what we should present to the folks who live in palaces but I don’t want to say something that could be construed as “sedition” and “anti royalty” and put you and your website into trouble…

  7. afriend says:

I also hope its not due to race issue. But DAP gave deputy CM to Indian in Penang. Also, Selangor Khalid and Perak CM also said they want to help build more temple. Is more Indian in exco important than Indian welfare being taken care?

  8. Killi Valavan says:

Yes Killer …… you told us …. u r the God ! (God of nonsense) . we thought u were already ‘samadhi’ ….hehe you’re back to bullshit again just like your party leaders …..

‘macho man’ ?? come on lah……. if it is true then hindraf/makkal shakthi would not be heard in the first place .

before u get agitated for not getting 3 exco , go back and ask your ‘macho man’ what happened to the two full minister that cabinet used to have….

  9. just says:

Hi guys u r right…it’s years of the sheer frustration of the Indian community that caused a swing of votes to the opposition with the hope that something good will be delivered…and now is known that it’s not so for now…

On a happy note, glad to know Sivasubramniam (Buntong) has openly spoken out expressing his displeasure on the sidelining in Perak EXCO, though he later retracted and apologized for some obvious reasons.

He defended his earlier decision to quit because the exco lineup which was announced on Saturday had disappointed the Indian community who had staunchly backed DAP, PKR and PAS” .

This is the quote from Siva :-” DAP’s electoral victories in Perak were the result of makkal sakthi (‘people’s power’ in Tamil), which has been the rallying cry for Indian Malaysians who felt marginalised by the BN government”

Roses should be sent to him for his courage…so far he is the only one to voice out openly in the opposition group!!!!!!

    Dear Brother,

Pooba if you recollect my post earlier on the Selangor MB Khalid creating a stunt by reanouncing the already promised temple land and recollection, I said we need to watch BR carefully. We need to create pressure groups to force BR and BN to work for us.

I think the Indians have done the right thing by voting opposition, no doubt. See the effects, Samy Vellu shouting for Indians daily and even try to speak up for HINDRAF leaders. As usual it’s all public stunt, but see his all found new courage to question UMNO leaders for Indian problems attention. WHY WHY this happened because MIC loss badly and need to speak or be cast into oblivion forever. If we have supported BN then he would have just remain the OLD ARROGANT guy with the rest of MIC jokers. I dont think the community will lose anything badly in 5 years without MIC. It will only motivate MIC to come to senses and work hard. Actually SV shouting that BR is same as BN in Exco provision for Indians will have created some pressure on BR. See effect on Perak, YB Siva resigning and rumour YB Kesavan also unhappy. This is what MCA/GERAKAN and DAP does. Shout from both sides and the COMMUNITY will benefit. Good to see BR and MIC shouting and creating pressure for each other and GOD wiling Indians will benefit.

Right coming back to the point on Exco, DAP Perak is filled with typical minded old style Chinese in the form of Ngeh Koo Ham and cousins. Even before the GE, he was reluctant to give the Tronoh seat to Indian because his cousin has done a lot of work in Tronoh it seems. But pressure from Kula through CEC got them the seat (FYI, Sivakumar is a political man of Kula), the proof for the issue was available in NST.

No doubt the BR especially DAP has played us out. In Penang, the TMB2 position was only given after prolong discussion by HINDRAF Thanentiran (see http://www.olaichuvadi.blogspot for info reagrding this) with Guan Eng. See NST or Star for source as there were no plans to create this post in Penang and the announcement of Guan Eng came as a surprise. So again we have to fight through HINDRAF guys for the post and not offered generously. Also note the good portfolios Prof Ramasamy was given excluding HR. But one thing to note, the other 3 DAP Indian ADUN jokers refuse the to take up another Exco post offered by Guan Eng in addition to TMB2, source NST.

Remember earlier DAP Perak requested for 8 Exco which was rumoured included 3 Indians, but when it was made 6 , two Indians were dumped instead of Chinese. Also I have no clue why PKR didnt give a post to Indian, they did give equal representation to all races in other states.

Why ADUN Buntong Siva was angry, because Ngeh has actually promised a second Exco for Indians but cheated. That’s why if you look at the scenario, the naming of Exco for Perak was kept very quiet until last minute, DAP Chinese what can you expect. I actually appreciate the act of YB Siva because you need guts to against the party. These guy has been working in Buntong for the past 10 years so he is not a newcomer. So again we need to fight for post by threatening to resign, now the want to give the Speaker post for Indians. Speaker for what no benefit. Also remember 400 Indians from Buntong did a protetst in Ipoh Padang yesterday.

Come on Brothers BR or BN we have to fight for our rights. Our true leaders are HINDRAF guys, no doubt. I was extremely impressed with Thanentiran speaking about post GE HINDRAF agenda, brilliant plans (watch video in olaichuvadi.blog).

Finally, apologies for the long comment. ALL the BEST and UNITEDLY we will move forward. Come on Bros, BN kah BR kah INDIA Mesti UNTUNG!!!

I am actually getting pissed of with the comments on YB Siva on some blogs and Malaysia Today, will give them back soon. Malaysia for Malaysians konon, rubbish, then why Indian/Chinese cannot become MB or PM????

  11. Killer says:

    New Indian

I got to agree with you on most of your points, spot on..though I disagree that Indians did the right thing by voting BR. Had Indians delivered their votes to BN and supported the MIC candidates imagine the post GE scenario ! I m sure that SV could have obtained more cabinet and exco positions and talk louder on Indian issues…

But I am with you on the current situation. Indians had been hoodwinked left right and center by BR and all of a sudden there is no talk about releasing HINDRAF 5 or helping Indians…YB Siva is just asking what Indians were promised before and after GE actually and he is just and right for fighting for Indians’ right…but I resent the vicious attack on him by DAP/PKR people which smacks of racism….

I hope Indians had not forgotten what Khalid Ibrahim did in Ijok. He used race to attack MIC candidate in a most racist way. Even in Sime when he was there he was known as pro-Malay/Islam and the reason he was sacked because he wanted to grab shares of Sime in a dishonest way.

One more thing about Penang…do you guys know what the Indian ADUNs refused exco position ? It is self-interest. You know if you get elected to exco you need to leave you current business (they are all rich lawyers) so they rejected the offer. So selfish and an betryal of Indians !! Also Rayer has a poor reputation in Penang for being dishonest, aloof and anti-Indian behaviour.

To killed : I owe you an apology…I agree we all must support Dr Subra 100% and perhaps ask MIC members to vote him as the next MIC chief. Unlike others he is a professional and qualified to lead Indians.

  12. VJ says:

In my point of view :
    – we did the right thing in voting in BR . No doubt .
    – with BR gaining power , certain corruption percentage by BN managed to be countered .
    – i dont agree giving mandate to MIC gonna turn things around . It’s a joke if ppl tell me MIC cant do much for past 30yrs but could do more if given mandate on Mar8 .
    – though different arguments on YB Siva’ act to resign and retract , to me i think he is a blunt leader . Bf election , i’ve written that minority needs blunt leaders to fight . That’s why H5 are so celebrated . YB Rayer almost did that prior election for not getting nominated . They are ‘fighting’ for monority voice . That’s what we want ! Could this happen in BN ? No way . Only umno allowed to fight .
Again , racial bias is found everywhere . Not just in politics . Those worked in PG private sector knows this better . So we need to keep fighting . We need ‘blunt’ leaders in politics . They only exist in BR .
    – if someone interested in politics . Go and venture in BR . Make a strong community there . Those in the MIC/PPP/IPF/MIUP …… you may need to think to resign and join where you could really fight (unless your purpose is merely personal gain)
