You don’t have to go Kelantan to hear the word “keling” it was also used in August House.

For me both “terms” are derogatory.

Anyway, I still stand on the same ground . It will be blown out of proportion if it was said by any Malay or Chinese dude . Thats reality. That is the dystopia i live in. Maybe in Mr.Poobalan’s utopia,it wont happen.

Oh, sharing some bit news. I stayed in Kelantan for 1 year.Was studying in Kelantan Politeknik for sometime. I know some kelantan born malays.
Im sure not MANY as Mr.Poobalan knows, but some And they call Indians as keling. We must go into Kelantan to see the real thing.

And Mr.Poobalan , nalla comedy pandringe. You , urself said u did not label anyone as MAMAK. That means u know labelling someone as MAMAK is offensive.

If someone call our restorens as Keling shop will it be OK ?

Im just saying we must not label anyone with any Names. Indian muslims,not mamaks . Indian muslim eatry. Not mamak shops.

And Maya,. If can ,debate ethically Take a stand in something.

it’s not about “thevai”, but about providing check and balance. the reader may highlight if got mistakes by the writer, and vice versa. no one is perfect and i appreciate bro novinthen’s comments. as long as one is sincere and civilized in his communications, respect will be there.

again, i think answer to your question is no - it will not be blown out of proportion if any malay menteri or umno guy says it. so, i don’t agree.
many words are in the dictionary. but surely not all of them are used in public or published in media for everyday use. i met many kelantanese while studying and even few are of my colleagues now are kelantanese. not even once i heard them mention the word “keling” in public.

remember, i mentioned “mamak shop”, as in adjective which is a common term widely used all over malaysia and also appears in many travel mags and tourism websites. i did not call anyone “mamak”. i think that is a big difference.
why do you think?

well, my question IS , if a malay menteri or maybe UMNO guy said it,will it be blown out of propotion or not We will never see it as a joke but classify it as rasictic term put on Indian Muslims. Agreed or not agreed. Simple

Im sure the word KELING also is in DBP Dictionary and fits just nicely in many malay’s daily conversations specially those from Kelantan and so on.

Mamak shops are common words found even in newspapers, beside daily conversation. And who can forget tasty mee goreng mamak?
