Anyone can be PM says Mahathir

Well, we have to agree that anyone can be a PM because himself is a living proof. In fact, I have mentioned that all our PMs are of mixed ancestry. None of them are actually pure Malay (if got such a thing).

But he is smart enough to highlight that the person must command the majority of the house (Dewan Rakyat). In current scenario, its only UMNO because they conquered most of the seats. So, in order to change the PM, another party must take over. For sure MIC, MCA, etc. are out of the question. In fact any other BN coalition member cannot be considered because among them, UMNO stands in most seats. So, that leaves us with the opposition coalition - which because it consists of only 3 parties - are quiet evenly represented. Thus any leader from PKR, DAP or PAS can be Prime Minister if they win the next elections or manage to command majority support from current MPs.

Thus it is clear that under BN, a non-Muslim can never be a PM unless UMNO changes its membership rule.

Under PR, PAS has firmly said that it would only support a Muslim Malay for PM post if the PR takes over the government. Thus, its very difficult for PKR and DAP to go for it by themselves and take over the government.

So, when can we see a change? When the rakyat can accept the idea. We cannot depend on politicians because once they sense the rakyat are changing, these politicians will do anything and everything to cling on to their powers.

It does not matter if the Prime Minister is Malay or non-Malay, as long as he enjoys the trust of all Malaysians.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mohamad said there was no
specification in the country that a Prime Minister must be a Malay.

“But when you talk about having a non-Malay as a PM, you are being
racist yourself because you shouldn’t ask the question if one is Malay
or non-Malay.

“If he is acceptable to all Malaysians, yes, he
can become PM. The specification is that he must be the leader of a
majority party and if he can be such a leader of that majority party.
Don’t ask if he is Malay, Chinese or Indians,” he told reporters after
delivering a keynote address on “Bangsa Malaysia” at the Perdana
Leadership Foundation on Wednesday.

Maathias Chang blunder

Really surprising that Dr Mohamad’s former political secretary Matthias Chang can make such a blunder. Surely he know at least his ex-boss race!

As mentioned in Malaysiakini:

“He (Ian Chin) must be sacked for slandering a great Malay leader,” the lawyer told reporters after lodging a police report against the judge for allegedly making defamatory remarks against the former prime minister.

Its not “great Malay leader”, you silly! Its “great half-Malayalee leader”! If that’s too difficult, just say Indian leader lah… Well, I can accept Indian-Muslim leader as well. :)

Malaysia had an indian Prime Minister?

Looks like we are up there with Fiji as well. After Malaysiakini revealed that “it is widely believed that ’s father, a school teacher, had migrated to Malaysia from the southern Indian state of Kerala and subsequently married a Malay woman”, many cans of worms have literally exploded!

With the caveat that the above “widely believed” story is true:

- how can the son of a migrant end up as prime minister? Hmm, no wonder son of indonesian migrant also can become menteri besar.

- how can a half-indian become a member of UMNO and rise up to be the president of a malay party? Are UMNO people hypocrites, blind or just plain confused about themselves?

If the above is true, then we can be happy and proud that an Indian (half actually) Malayalee was a prime minister for nearly half of the country’s existence! Wait a minute, could “Malayalee” have anything to do with the word “Malay”? Maybe some historians should follow up on this. :)

I also wonder if ’s father was originally a muslim or converted after marriage? A website lists his father’s name as Mohamed bin Iskandar. No mention if the father converted. A search on the Internet reveals a name “Mohamed Iskandar Kutty” - supposedly the name of ’s father, and that bin Mohamad was actually s/o Mohamad Iskandar Kutty. This implies his father was a Muslim Malayalee.

Obviously, “bin” is not used in India. So, how can the father end up with “bin”? This can possibly help many of the Indian Muslims who want to join UMNO, so I’m sure they will be interested.

This is not intended to insult or humiliate his family, but I think the history of our prime ministers should be well documented, with the truth.

a/l Mohamed anyone?
