This is a blog. That fact means nothing. It is not a peer-reviewed journal, a final archive of my writing, a sponsored publication, or the product of gatekeeping and editing. That does mean something: it means that while the ideas and thoughts are often vital and the product of a long gestational period, the writing itself is not. It is essentially as it came from the keyboard: spontaneous, unproofed, unrevised, and corrected afterward only when necessary to address mistakes that grossly effect the intent. Where such changes have been made they are explicitly noted.

It would be distinctly unwise, not to mention uncharitable, to play connect-the-dots with my physical life and work and my “life of the mind,” as scanty as either might be. My attitude at work, my reaction to ideas, your grade (good or bad), the length and tone of my discussion at the coffee pot, the time it took for me to return your letter or email, and the quality and quantity of my response to you in any medium are probably not tied to anything you read here, at least not in a way that you will be able to confidently assume without sharing years of psychotherapy and the bills that come with it. And even then, keep in mind the next (and last) paragraph.

Opinions and characterizations of fact here are my own and represent no one else, unless explicitly stated so. They do not represent my past or present employers, my family, my friends, my children, the repressed or “the man”, alien life forms, any movement (political or intestinal), or a coherent and consistent philosophy or aesthetic. In fact, it’s quite possible that by the time you read the words here they won’t even represent me. If I contradict myself, very well then, I contradict myself. Catching me in a contradiction is probably not the result of your steely grasp of logic and it’s almost assuredly not a product of hypocrisy. I’m a human being and my blog reflects that humanity.

  5. jackie says:

    Hi Sir,
    there are less comments in this page, easy to find mine. LOL

    i am a 2009 SPM student.
    erm Sir, the following are my SPM results:

    BM =A
    BI =A
    Add Math =A
    Bio =A
    BC =A-
    PHY =A+
    CHe =A+
    Math =A+
    Sejarah =A+
    Moral =A+

    The following are my questions:

    (1) If i were to take foundation, can i complete my foundation in Curtin then continue my degree in other Uni?

    (2) If i were to take diploma in E n E engineering, can i continue for Bachelor in chemical Engineering ?

    (3) my fren said, IPTS ‘s ID No. can buy from bank, but this morning i went to public bank , they have no idea about this. —i) Am i gone to the wrong way ? —ii) or does this thing exist ?

    (4) May I know why some student study A-level and some go for STPM ? I heard both programs’s level are equivalent ?

    (5) Is foundation in science only touch on all the subjects in the field of engineering only ? or touch on medic also ? this is because i wana touch all type of engineering so tat i know which is the most i interested in.

    Lastly, thank for sir taking time to read my comments .

    • poobalan says:

      jackie,

      yes less comment, but others’ won’t find it even though it may be useful for them 🙂

      1. depends on which uni accepts Curtin’s foundation. you have to check with the targeted uni.
      2. Nope, i don’t think so.
      3. Wei, IPTS where got buy ID from bank???? They are all so small organisations compared to IPTA and malaysian govt, definitely can’t afford. Only UTP said need to get an ID, but their program and scholarship application has ended. Ask your friend which IPTS said so. possibly got one or two which linked with certain bank. There’s NO centralised intake for IPTS.
      4. a-levels: parents can afford it, no plan to continue in IPTA and most likely study overseas or IPTS, not sure what degree to due but only clear on the general area (engineering, arts, medicine etc), costlier. STPM: cheapest option, want to further study in IPTA, hope to score 4As and get entry into medic,law, engineering, accounts in IPTA.
      5. don’t have high hopes on foundation. it just covers general topics as introduction. if its foundation in science, then will cover both medic and engineering. if its foundation in engineering, the focus on engineering only. each IPTS would have its own version.

      • jackie says:

        @poobalan,

        LOL…that a good point…blekkk…just joke oni…
        back to the topic,
        For the IPTS , i try to check it out with my friend.
        thx for the info Sir willing to share with us.

        ….Sir i cant decide where to go now ….may sir give some advice to me ?

        —–>>> i am confirmed that i wan to work in engineering field. may i know where offered foundation in E?.

        ——>>> my mum say send me to UTAR as UTAR offered full scholarship for straight As students,but i heard others are saying tat UTAR is not good ..may i know the difference between UTAR and some other private U ?
        ^^ thank once again for Sir willing to take u time to reply my comment

        • poobalan says:

          Jackie,

          many colleges offer foundation programs. you can try search in http://www.afterschool.my or http://www.studymalaysia.com as they have search function by type of course.

          UTAR is quite OK, but not “glamorous” or “happening” like the popular colleges (inti, lkw, taylors, sunway, nilai, kdu etc). And UTAR is majority chinese students, so may not have that “international appeal”. REMEMBER: glamor, happening, international quality. UTAR, being backed by MCA and govt, has lower fees. I would say its a good option if you want to consider cost. But in terms of appeal and overall student experience, then the other colleges may offer better exposure.

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,

          if my family monthly outcome only RM 2000.00? Can i just depend on my scholaship or loan to afford it ? cuz i would like to have a better exposure …..

          • poobalan says:

            jackie,

            if monthly income is rm2000 and living in urban area, considered poor family. its not easy to study in the expensive colleges. lots of challenges and peer pressure. if you can get scholarship it would be good. even loan won’t be sufficient for all expenses.

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,

          hi sir, i got another confusion

          may i know for engineering,
          which would be getting more jobs opportunities after graduated ?

          CHEM E, civil , EnE, Marine, Electric power(UNITEN) ,

          i keen in chem E, but someone told me tat the jobs opportunities is low…may i know the fact ? Sir

          Thank

          • poobalan says:

            most job offers are for manufacturing line since our economy is still dependent on consumer product industry. so, mechanical and EnE is popular. others like chem, power, civil is also in demand both locally and globally.

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,
          hello Sir ?

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,

          haha, ya i m waiting for SIr’reply for a week….^^ thx for the answer ….
          i had my JPA interview on 8/4/10, i told them i wana be a civil engineer
          , i tell them, as parallel to the NEM , the infra and landmark in Malaysia should improve…to attraction the attention globally…haha….any comment from Sir ?

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,
          thx Sir, ya, has Sir ever heard of POWERTEK scholaship ?

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,
          ^^ sir one more thing, erm…may i know when the shortlisted-candidates for JPA scholarship will be announced ?

          • poobalan says:

            this is what i got from afterschool FB page:

            PILN results 2010 for admission to Japan, France, Middle East programmes by 3rd week of April 2010

            • Registration to Kolej Persediaan (for France and Middle East programmes) on 18th April 2010

            • Registration to Kolej Persediaan (for Japan programmes) on 26th and 27th April 2010

            • PILN results 2010 for all other programmes by the 3rd week of May 2010

            • Registration for all other programmes into Kolej Persediaan on May – June 2010

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,
          Thank Sir very much !!!!
          ^.^

          Regarding to the powertek, i accidentally applied their scholarship, and they approve to offer,RM100,000.00 for 4 to 5 years, but just tat have to enroll as UNITEN students, erm Sir may i have u opinion ? because i wonder why is this scholarship offered so easily without interview …haha just need confirmation ^.^

          thank a lot ^^

          • poobalan says:

            hi jackie,

            if its too good to be true, then probably need to be careful. i never heard of any scholarship for such amount offered without any interview or short-listing process. or it must be really the Gods smiling on you.

            but uniten is good place. have their own big campus and TNB support.

      • jackie says:

        @poobalan,
        Thank Sir ^^….but i will keep the list of being shortlisted by JPA and Matrik ^^ (tomorrow) for the priority . ^^ Sir i apply engineering course to France for JPA,

        1.)based on the info Sir had given, is it on 18 April ? which is Sunday (not a holiday for government servant )?

        • poobalan says:

          jackie,

          yeah its holiday, but result is send via web and email, AND civil servant do have to work on any day if ordered to.

        • jackie says:

          @jackie,

          waof , i only get to know it now …haha thx ..^^ Sir , i just checked my status for Matrik…but sad to say, Dengan dukacitanya dimaklumkan, anda tidak berjaya.
          Sekiranya ingin membuat rayuan sila KLIK di bawah.
          Anda boleh membuat rayuan sebelum atau pada 30 APRIL 2010

          does it the same results to JPA ?

  6. jackie says:

    hi sir

    i gt the letter to the interviewing session for IJM scholarship ? i tot it only for STPM students, but i m just a SPM leavers……erm…can i have the confirmation from sir ? thx a lot

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Jackie,

      I also thought its for STPM leavers because you can’t enter IPTA with SPM if want to study degree. did you call them and check?

      • jackie says:

        @poobalan,

        they called me last time b4 the letter came.
        they just keep on asking which year i wana graduate….i also keep on telling tat i graduate my secondary school in the year of 2009 and just holding SPM results only….they just like dun understand me and it seem i also dun understand them.

        And the time i filled the application form, they asked for STPM results, so i just filled my STPM result all 0 marks and F grades……

        and it is strange …….. i received the letter…..

    hi after school, 1st,is UTP mechanical engineering more recognised or UNITEN , currently i m studying in UNITEN , foundation in mechanical engineering. can i continue my degree in UTP ? any advice ?

    • poobalan says:

      alex.

      i’m not sure about which being more recognised, but engineering course must be recognised by Board of Engineers Malaysia. FYI, both UNITEN and UTP is ok in terms of the feedback i received, but make sure you check on the recognition by the Board.

      as for continuing from uniten to utp after foundation, you have to check with UTP if they will accept uniten’s foundation certificate or not.

    sir,i had studied my stpm in year 2009 in arts stream..recently i got my result n i got credits in pengajian am n B.M…n failed in pengajian perniagaan n economics…my pointer was juz 1.1….what options do i have…i m planning to resit for STPM again….what is the prosedur needed to resit for STPM? plz help me to make a decision.thank you for your coperation…..

    • poobalan says:

      hi jack,

      if you think you can do better in stpm, then go for resit. advantage: can try for IPTA, cheap option. disadvantage: delay another year, may not get good results again, place in IPTA no guaranteed.

      if you think that want to proceed to IPTS, then you can use your SPM results to do either diploma or foundation program before continuing degree. advantage: save time, got many IPTS to choose. disadvantage: more cost.

      to resit for STPM, ask your school. they will guide you.

    Dear GOD Kadir Ibrahim.

    With broken heart I am telling you this, 17 years ago I was raped by a tamil top leading motivational speaker from Malaysia. Year 1996. I am a Singaporean I am 42 now. Then an undergraduate I have lost my mind afterwhich. For 13 years Rajinikanth thoughts, In and Out of mental hospital. Now my savings $ 560 only + CPF below $ 45,000. Nothing else. I am soughting Singapore Help.

    I have lost my mind in 1995 after attending an motivatioval course by tamil Malaysians. Only after telling my problem to my Singapore counsellor did I realise that I was raped. I am totally very very blur Mr Kadir Ibrahim.

    These two impacts is causing me to lose my mind.

    Made a lot of calls to Mr Superstar Rajinkanth house throughout these 13 years about my problem but was harshly scolded as of, on top of my existing problem. Told me to get admitted in a mental hospital. I have also sent some $ 2200 dollars to his home address over these 13 years.

    I am a Diploma Plus 1 1/2 year Finance Bachelor Degree holder before incidents, now married to an Indian national work permit worker.

    I have dashed my parents now 84 and 81 hopes. These unfortunate souls held many hopes as I was the first daughter to do degree then in our respected middle class family. Now additionally to these souls their dear son age 45 has died.

    Dear Sir
    I need some help and guidance for my daughter after her SPM result 2013.
    She took 6A+, 3A and 1B+ (in P. Moral). She applied UPU and JPA. So far she attend 1 interview at UKM for asasi . Matric and JPA she did not get it.
    Presently she is doing her foundation in Chemical Engn. at UTP, January intake after SPM trial exam (trial exam 10A).Hope to get some scholarship but all fail because her P. Moral result. I have already use all my saving to enroll her for 1st sem. Now to continue at UTP have already apply for PTPTN but this does not enough, I still have to top-up on fee, food and travelling.
    Now my question is:
    1. How to get scholarship to continue at UTP.
    2. Is there any chance you could help her for UKM asasi.
    3. Any scholarship to continue her study’s at any field.
    Thanks, raja

    • poobalan says:

      Hi,

      personally, using moral subject as reason not to given scholarship is ridiculous to me. however, that’s the way things are, so can’t do much about it.
