I meant government matriculation. There are financial aid provided by CMU but usually freshmen are not qualified for it since we need to have our first semester results from CMU and that results will guarantee whether or not we are qualified for the scholarships awards.

I am trying to get Petronas scholarship but I do not know whether they provide scholarships for students who want to study overseas and have already gained acceptance to any world known universities out there. I do not mind being bonded with Petronas as another way to pay the scholarship since I see getting bonded is another way to gain work experience.

Do you know anything about Petronas scholarships? I have search through their web sites but I have found nothing. Also, I have emailed my inquiry to them but I got an error instead since the email address that they have provided is not working. Do you mind posting a direct link here if you found anything on Petronas scholarships?

Thanks in advance for your help.

hello sir… right now i am very confused… i initially planned to go to indonesian uni(padjajaran)… but i heard that tiz year jpa iz x sendin studenz over der n tat mmc iz planning to ban d indo uniz… then, i waz considering aimst…. pluz, i can also apply for ptptn here… but then i heard that der iz corrupcy prob over der… n moz of d people that i know are discouraging me to go der… if russia, my father cant afford it… so.. i am very clueless now…

    * i got 10A 1B in Spm n i am coming from a middle-classed family

    • poobalan says:

      hi,

i’ve not heard about JPA not sending students to that uni or MMC planning to “ban” that uni. however, better you clarify with MMC /JPA and try get written reply.

i’m not sure what you mean by “corrupy” problem in AIMST. Can you explain about it and why people discouraging you?

you can also try other local colleges offering medicine – like perak royal college, cybermed, UCSI, etc.

  4. pavithiran says:

sir i did’nt get jpa appeal also.pls help me.wat can i do?is there any other way?wat is pidn?

    • poobalan says:

try for private colleges or go to form six. another option is refer to MIC because they say will allocate 200 place in AIMST.

    • poobalan says:

PIDN is JPA scholarship for Dalam Negeri while PILN is for Luar Negeri. Dalam negeri means you complete your degree locally.

      • pavithiran says:

sir,as a spm leaver can i apply for the pidn program ?

        • poobalan says:

PIDN is meant for those who got the place in local public universities, MMU, Uniten, and UTP, unless those who scored 10A1s above – given automatically, if i’m not mistaken. its applicable for those who got place to do either diploma or degree.

        • pavithiran says:

i want to know whether aimst is providing scholarship for undergraduate studies?

  5. hello sir..I am studying at PTPL Shah Alam for medical lab technology..my pointer in first semester was low and my PTPTN loan stopped and i continue study in the same college for the same course as a private student and i got 2.58 but i can’t apply for the PTPTN loan again. My father also cannot effort for my study expenses. I got a younger sister and elder sister who are still studying depending on my father and somemore my grandfather is a heart patient and need to undergo bypass surgery this september under doctor order so my father use his kwsp for grandfather. i don’t know what to do sir pls help me..i want to study but no money sir..

    • poobalan says:

      Hi,

yours is a sad story but a good lesson for all the youths. we tend to take things for granted and think that will have many chances to “repeat” or “redo” things. but life is not always like that. i think you have realised that now. Once grades are affected, loans/scholarship also affected.

for next step, no one is really bothered with the sad story nowadays. ultimately your grade is the one that decides your future (at least for many students). for me, 2.58 is still considered as bad result. nothing below 3.00 is acceptable if you thinking of finding a good job and career. as Indian, you have to study double hard than the other races because we don’t have bumi status and don’t have money/business.

i suggest that you try for other loans like MIED, HOPE, pinjaman kerajaan negeri (you can apply to the state your were born in and also the states your parents were born in) etc. another option is to try rayuan with PTPTN by showing your improved results – but that is a long shot. better if you study hard and get 3-pointer, and then try appeal to PTPTN.

  6. shasa says:

hellooo…i’ studying at UM n i’m a 3rd year student. my fren having a pro. her pointer foe last sem was 2.5. she didnt get ptptn loan. nw she having mony shortage. she’s trying for scholarsips. bt she don’t know which scholarsip should she apply…will she get scholarsip for her pointer?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Sasha,

Your friend got 2.5 last sem but what’s the CGPA like? Is it above 3.00?

As for your other questions, imagine you are scholarship or loan provider. Would you give your money to a student like your friend? Unless your friend has solid reason for the poor results – maybe fell sick during exam, emotional stress due to death/mishap in family etc, I doubt your friend can secure scholarships.

For loan, she can give a try at the kerajaan neger where she is born. The state government will offer loan via Yayasan or Tabung or SUK. I know Selangor, Perak, Penang, Kedah, Malacca, NS, Sabah, Sarawak offer it. Pls check the relevant state government website.

  7. Cher Siong says:

hi sir, i am currently an ADP student who are preparing to transfer to CANADA university of WATERLOO this september.

so any recommended scholarship for me to apply that the dateline is after june?
    thank you

    • poobalan says:

      Hi,

i won’t be maintaining the scholarship thread after may, so you can refer to the list in Scholarship page to get website address of other sites that maintain those info – like malaysiascholarship.net, for example.
other than that, try to check the newspapers from time to time.

    thank you

  10. pavithiran says:

hai,sir i wanted to know whether aimst university is providing scholarship or not?

    • poobalan says:

why not ask aimst itself? http://www.aimst.edu.my

as far as i know scholarship is provided via JPA, while loan is via MIED.

      • pavithiran says:

sir, once i heard from the news that aimst will be offering 200 places for the students who did not get offered jpa scholarship.what is that actually?

        • poobalan says:

the students who applied for JPA scholarships (PILN) but did not get a place number around 240 students. they appealed again to JPA but not all got will get a place. The balance of them will be offered seat in AIMST to do medic foundation (but MIC never clarify if its sponsored or not).

hi sir, i studied for nursing oni 1 year, i drop it coz my mum health prob, nw she is fine n i want to cont my studies, cn u tel me wat should i do tank u!

    • poobalan says:

this is an easy question 🙂

go back to your college and tell them you want to continue la…sure they will take you back. you can try to negotiate with them to continue in year two, provided you still have your result slips and its good enough.

or, using your results in year one, apply in other colleges that offer nursing to study in year two or at least skip few subjects (exemption).

    • poobalan says:

what you can do is visit the schools near your house and inquire. the schools will have the application form, or you can go to Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah as well to apply as guru sementara. school heads can’t hire on their own nowadays.

  13. alei says:

    sir,
i’m a second year pharmacy student, currently receiving PTPTN loan but it is not suficient. Can sir please suggest which scholarship can I apply for.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi,

for scholarships, its being constantly advertised in newspapers. i’ll suggest that you surf the net and google using key words like “scholarship malaysia”. at the moment HSBC scholarship is still running.

  14. Priya says:

    Dear sir,

I had applied for JPA in the recent intake for the overseas actuarial science course.I was informed that my application for the course i wanted was not successful and instead i’m offered to pursue a foundation in science at the sunway monash campus.

This means i will have to contd my degree in Monash. However, its unclear as to what course i’m being offered as its not stated in my offer letter. After talking to the college personnel i was informed that ‘bidang science’ could probably be refering to courses such as Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology, Medical Bioscience, Environmental Management and Food Science and Technology. Upon asking the JPA personnel i did not obtain any clear answer as well and they merely claim that i can pursue my degree in ANY course.I realise i should be grateful for the course i have been offered but it is not even remotely related to the course of my interest.

Is there any way i can appeal for a change in course? I wouldnt mind settling for economics but at this point i’m not sure if its possible as the JPA officials are suggesting a Bachelors degree in Biz admin as a solution.

Thank you so much for your assistance.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi,

since the offer is for foundation in science, the most likely it would lead to a degree in science based program as mentioned by the college personnel. The JPA staff themselves are not very clear because there’s not proper rules and these things change year to year depending on the political situation. I would suggest that you proceed with the foundation program and consider the options after passing through the program with flying colors (seriously). then you will be in a position to ask for the degree program of your choice.

worst case, you may decide to use the foundation results and go for your interested field by self-funding (need to talk to JPA to let you go if can’t get the suitable course, but don’t ask now, they will surely say not possible). You probably can get scholarship from Monash or others as well. But remember, need to get optimum results.

hello sir,its very good to see the way you are helping the indian students.i am in need of your help too.i am a medical student from ukraine.i’ve completed 3years n going to start my 4th year.but i couldnt find any loans as my university is not recognized.is there any available way for me to find a loan so that i can finish up what i started?because if there’s no financial aid,i dont think so i will be able to finish up my studies…please do help me to get any financial aid for at least this year n next year.just the tuition fee would be enough for me to complete my studies!

    • poobalan says:

      Hi,

since the uni is not recognized, i guess loan or scholarship from malaysia is very very hard to obtain. anyway, you can try appealing to MCEF or even MIED. worst case is to take a bank loan by your parents.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Tasha,

Scholarship info will be announced when its available. You should constantly refer to newspapers or search the net. I will update in this blog, UMIC forum or even in FB if there’s any info on scholarships.

To do MBBS, i’m not sure if can get exemption for certain subjects. Of course you study MBBS provided have money and spend at most another 5-6 years.

  19. Karthik says:

    Dear Sir,

My son is doing he A’levels and his result will be out in Jan’2010, kindly advice what scholarship can he apply.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Mr Karthik,

He can apply for many of the private sector scholarships, as long it states A-Levels is accepted. Can also try for those based in Singapore, and Commonwealth countries (Australia, UK, NZ, Canada etc). It will a good time for him (and you) to visit the education fairs that will be coming up soon. Keep an eye on the newspapers or just tune in to the net (including this blog). Most scholarships will be appearing between now and July next year, with the peak during March-May season when SPM/STPM results are out.

  20. saras says:

    Dear Mr.Poobalan,
My son got 3As 4Bs and 3Cs for his SPM(2008). Using his trial result we enrol him in Lim Kok Wing University by using his savings. He has just finished his foundation and waiting for his result. Can I apply for PTPN or other loans? Please can you tell me which loan is advisable to apply? I need your advise pls.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Ms Saras,

If the course is MQA-accredited, then yes can apply PTPTN and other loans. There’s few interest free loans. Most offer 3%, 4%, or higher. PTPTN is the easiest to apply for. There’s others like Amma Foundation, MIED, MCEF etc. You can search in this blog or in Google for their contact info.

  21. Dinesh says:

hello sir, im a Diploma in electronic engineering holder from polytechnic. I have completed my diploma 1 year ago. I gt very good results for my diploma ( 3,74). I applied to many local uni but i cant gt a place even though i have muet, band 4. Im from a middle class family, so i cant afford private uni where end of the day, i have to pay my loan for rm 40k-60k. what should i do now & what would be ur advice for me? tq
    Vetri nichayam.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Dinesh,

You can still for PTPTN loan because first class results will mean the loan is converted to scholarship. so, i guess private college which offers a recognised program and the PTPTN also recognise the program, is your best best.

for IPTA, you can still try to apply for next intake next year.

other than that, just keep an eye for scholarships from companies – like gamuda, tanjong, etc.

among local colleges, try UTAR or TAR college which offer got rates. And remember that with good results each semester, many local colleges like sunway, taylors, nilai, etc do offer fees discount and so on.

  22. kayne says:

    Dear sir,
I am currently entering my fourth year of studies for my bachelors in biotechnolgy.
studying now in Califronia state polytechnic university.
i had taken bank loan, ptptn and dads sponsor for the past 3 years. now my dad can only afford to pay me for the coming first term. i will be having problem to finish my studies for the next 2 terms towrds my graduation.
i have tried going through various web sites to look for sponsorship, scholarship and applicable loans. but all i met was a dead end. can i please get help sir?

    Thanking you in advance.

    • poobalan says:

Hi Kayne, i’m not sure on what else you can try. you just have to keep trying. since there’s only 2 terms more, try to plan ahead – maybe getting part-time job? or post the two terms and work to save some money?

you can try various associations, NGOs too. if anything comes up, i’ll post in the blog.

    Dear Sir,

I have enroll my daughter at AIMST Universiti to do medic (August 2009 intake). Expenses on my own. Can my daughter apply for PIDN jpa scholarship now. Please advise.

  24. Vimala says:

    Sir,

Thank you very much for your reply. But can my daughter get the jpa PIDN scholarship if she apply when its open after SPM results since her entry at AIMST was on our own initial expenses. What are the criteria for her to eligible for the scholarship. Thank you for your kind explanation.

  25. Mala Shanmugam says:

    Dear Mr. Poobalan,

My fren has just completed his diploma in Supply Chain Management. He want to furtherhis study to Degree and the problem is money. Can u suggest me where he can get his scholarship and where he can further his studies.

    Thanx and regards,
    Mala

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Ms Mala,

I guess its a common problem for many of us , this money thing. Firstly, he needs to have a good diploma results. Some scholarship providers still look at SPM results especially BM. After that, need to look at where he is furthering study – is the place and program recognised by the relevant authorities?

Scholarship is not something we can get like buying shirt in stores. need to search high and low, and fulfill many requirements. I suggest he try with those industry players that involved in SCM. Maybe prospective employer who can subsidise his studies?

There’s one uni: http://www.must.edu.my that offers degree in SCM. its in shah alam.

i’m not sure of other colleges, but some do offer SCM as one of the subjects or majoring when you take degree in business admin, logistics, management etc.

  26. Jagan says:

    Dear Sir,

My son was given jpa scholarship under pelajar tambahan 9A 2007. My son results for SPM was 10A1 and 2A2. Under the pelajar tambahan 9A 2007 jpa scholarship he went to do his A-level at Sunway College. His result was 310 pointer. For him to be eligible to do medic his results must 360 pointer. So he was offered biotec. Since my son wants to be a doctor, we decided to enroll him at IMU (own expenses). Can my son apply for JPA scholarship under PIDN (I was told that student with 10A1 will be given jpa scholarship). Please advice what i shd do to apply for the scholarship. Thank you.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Mr Jagan,

PIDN for 2009 was given only to 3 private uni (other than the public unis) which is uniten, mmu and uni petronas. IMU is not in the list. Not sure if the list will be expanded next year. he should try for ptptn which will cover some of the cost.

  27. diana says:

hi sir! Give me some suggestions please…. im from a middle-class family. My mom is a single mother n working as a operator. Father passed away 14 years ago. I got 5As & 6Bs in SPM (2006), 1A, 2B- & 1C in STPM (2008). Did get offer from UNIMAS to do sains tumbuhan. But since my passion is in doing healthcare course and upon my godfather’s request, i missed it. Then got offer from IMU to do Psychology. i nearly enrol my studies there when my godfather was admitted in hospital so i couldnt get any financial support to pay the downpayment money. so i lost my 2nd opportunity too. Now i dont have any other relatives who can lend me at least to pay downpayment money if i further studies at any private college. since im so helpless my amma askin me to do dip. in nursing (a scholarship program)… But since i have finished stpm with an average result, if can i wanna do Bsc. in a heathcare course such as physiotherapy or medical lab tecnology. Do i have any way to get sholarship with my results to further my studies to degree or just have to go long way like my amma said??….

    • poobalan says:

      hi diana,

you can enrol in degree (BSc) programs with STPM results. There are many colleges offering programs for healthcare sector. i suggest you visit these colleges during the education fair or their open days. among the colleges: masterskill, segi, mahsa, ucsi, cybernetics, help, etc. you can easily apply for PTPTN, so why worry about the funds? And if you get first class results, it will converted into scholarship.

  30. menachi.a says:

hi sir can i have more information regarding the education grant given by government. thanks.

    • poobalan says:

      hi meenachi a,

that’s a very general question that will give a page or more of answer! in summary, govt grants comes in from JPA scholarships, MARA scholarship (if your are malay), FELDA, other GLCs scholarships, PTPTN loans, Ministry of Education scholarships, loan for politeknik students, sponsorship for students in GiatMara or kolej komuniti program, discount for postgraduate studies etc.

maybe you can be a bit more specific in your question.

  31. Muhd Shairazi says:

    excuse me, sir
i am 2009 spm leavers and yet, still do not know my results
could you advice me scholarship that are suitable with my status ?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Shairazi,

Your situation is similar with another 450,000 students, so its not something unique! 🙂 At the moment, you can’t apply for scholarships because nearly all with ask for actual SPM results. What you can do, is use forecast results to apply in IPTS or foreign universities. And when actual results come out, can proceed with scholarship.

      Hi Thevamalar,

I’ll post info about post graduate studies in UMIC/Miclub/MindBB group and also at poobalan.com Facebook page, so you can check at these places. why not study in local university? govt offers place for free in local uni. Check www,mohe.gov.my for info.

your CGPA is decent enough, so what is possible reason for not getting a job? is it your degree which is “international affairs mgmt”? are you employed anywhere at the moment? its better to get any job rather than waiting for the correct job. did you try for govt job like PTD?

  36. Javiena says:

Hi sir.. I have a query here. this is on behalf of my friend. Actually, the main point here is he needs assistance to further his studies in aviation field. He is a diploma holder in Aircraft Maintenance Technology; studied in Tafe College (2002-2004). After that he attached to Air Asia as Junior Technician in Aircarft Line Maintenance. His job scope in that field was to maintain aircraft. He started to work there from Dec 2004 to May 2006. Since his dream is to be a pilot, he did his PPL (Private Pilot Licence) in Kelab Penerbangan Di Raja Selangor for 1 yr (Jan 2006-Jan 2007). He spent nearly RM25,000 to complete that. Now he is attached to CAE, Canadian Aviation Electronics located at Air Asia Academy,Sepang. His title in the company is Simulator Support Engineer. Nevertheless, since his interest and ambition is to be a pilot; he wants to do his CPL (Corporate Pilot Licence) as well. The cost to complete the full training is nearly RM180,000. He has tried for loan in Bank Rakyat, Agro Bank and also MIED. But it went ended up with failures. Few months back, he got the offer to study in IFTS (Integrated Flight Training Services, Ipoh), but he could not accept the offer just because he is not affordable to get such amount of money.”

Your feedback in this matter is utmost appreciated.

    Thanks.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Javiena,

Well, your friend have to find bank loan. CPL (its commercial, not corporate) doesn’t qualify for education scholarship because its not a academic degree study. so, only option is loan or scholarship from airlines/aviation industry. he can try airasia, mas etc, but competition is really, really tough.

  37. lim says:

Hi, sir. I am still not getting my SPMresults yet. I wish to do my med course in Monash. But I heard that its diff to enter the Monash. So, I have an alternative choice to MANIPAL. But I saw that MANIPAL is not recognised by Malaysian Government. Its tht true? Moreover I want to ask can I apply for JPA after Ihave completed my pre-u next year?
Plaese reply me asap. Thanks a lot!

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Lim,

Manipal is still recognised by Malaysian govt. One of its campus not being recognised in India itself.

If i’m not mistaken you can apply for JPA scholarship after pre-uni only if you study in selected private uni – mmu, petronas, and uniten. For medic, you can apply for loan after first semester of the program.

  38. lim says:

I would like to ask which pre-u programme is better?
A-level or SAM? Sorry for grammatic mistakes.

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Lim,

A-Levels: most accepted around the world. Choose min 4 subjects. 100% exams and about 1.5 years of study. Intake in Jan, Mar, July. Exams in June and Nov.
SAM: less accepted than A-Levels, but still accepted by many universities. Choose min 5 subjects. 50% exam and 50% course work. 1 year of study. Intake in Jan and March usually. Exams in Nov.

any scholarships for single parent student with normal cgpa, around 3.00 above?or half scholarships?or jus to cover d tution fees?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Harvin,

There’s seldom scholarship specifically for single parent (and i can’t remember one so far). however, being a single parent, it may greatly reduce the family income, thus more qualified under the financial conditions. So, i suggest you try all the possible scholarships and hope that the CGPA is on the upper part of 3.00, the higher the better.

  45. stephyee says:

Hi,I’m 2009 spm leaver,I plan to apply for loans for my further tertiary study, can u pls suggest any suitable loans for me?and can I apply for scholarship?thanks a lot!

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Stephyee,

loan/scholarship depends on your results, the course, location (local/overseas), and the institution. obviously you can apply for a scholarship/loan if you fit their requirements.

  46. pooh says:

sir, i did not do well in my trials but i know i performed better in my spm exam… instead of waiting 4 the results, many of my frens went 4 A level.. is that a good choice? and i would like 2 take up MBBS course..can u plz explain 2 me the rules n regulations.. n sir, i dnt wish 2 take STPM..without that, can i be a doctor?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Pooh,

In order to study medicine (MBBS), you need a pre-u qualification. example of pre-u is STPM, A-Levels, matriculation, foundation programs, SAM, CPU, AUSMAT, etc. pre-u courses ranged from 1 to 1.5 years.

for those students who have financial means, they won’t wait for STPM or JPA scholarship, but instead continue with other pre-uni as listed above. For those who depend on govt or scholarships, then need to take SPTM or apply for JPA scholarship.

So, back to you. since you don’t wish to take STPM, then obvious option is A-Levels or foundation in science or matriculation. Most local colleges that offer medicine will offer foundation in science that can be used to continue for MBBS. doing foundation means you limit the places you can pursue medicine to only those that recognise the foundation. doing a-levels means you can pratically study MBBS in any university that accepts a-level qualification.

  49. Maya says:

    Hello sir,
Is there any scholarships given for foundation course?

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Maya,

There are scholarships are usually offered by the college/uni itself for foundation program, PROVIDED your SPM results are good. Some give discounts like 75% or 50% fees based on your academic results.

  50. Loh says:

    hi…i m a student of SEGI.
    i take ADP in SEGI,
and maybe will go overseas study at the last year.
my result of SPM, i get D in BM, but B in UEC,
    can i still approve PTPTN?
    thanks..

    • poobalan says:

      Hi Loh,

You need 3 credits in any subject to qualify for PTPTN loan. Besides that, you must take a MQA approved program AND the duration of study must be more than one year. I’m not sure ADTP is allowed or not. you can check with SEGI counsellor.
