Hmm…Denison wants to resign, but SV asks him to stay twice. So is he staying on or resigning? Anyway, Plus Eights seems to be a good initiative indeed.

KUALA LUMPUR: Whenever problems cropped up in his family, T. Krishnan, 56, would scold his wife and children without identifying the issue. As a result of his temper, his children fared poorly in studies and his relationship with his family members suffered.
But after attending a parenting workshop organised by the Social Strategic Foundation under its Plus Eight project last year, his life changed. He is now closer to his family and his son, who also joined the programme, has enrolled in a management course at Universiti Industri Selangor.
“After attending the workshop last year, I could see how my behaviour was hurting my family. I have changed my attitude and taught my children what I’ve learned. Now we sit together and discuss things as a family whenever there are problems,” said the retiree from Batang Berjuntai at Project Plus Eight’s central region gathering and certificate presentation here yesterday.
Krishnan’s son was one of the 23,000 youngsters and students who have benefited from the project, a two-way social programme run for underachievers from poor families.
The secret of the project’s success lies in its series of eight activities. Each group of underachievers goes through a 51/2-day workshop where they learn a value base and are given various skills-training opportunities. Their parents also attend a 21/2-day training workshop in parenting skills, culminating in an interactive camp that brings youth and parents together in an assessment exercise.
Present at yesterday’s event were more than 1,000 students, parents and teachers, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu and foundation executive director Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria. Later, Samy Vellu said Denison, who reportedly had resigned, was still with the foundation.”I asked him twice to stay back. “He handed over a resignation letter but I asked him to carry on with his work. “He is dedicated, hardworking and does his work diligently. That’s why I have asked him to stay.”
