KUALA LUMPUR: Former senior federal counsel Datuk T.S. Sambanthamurthi died yesterday at the University Malaya Medical Centre. He was 76. <\/p>\n
\n<\/table>\n He is survived by his wife, two children and three grandchildren. <\/p>\n
Sambanthamurthi, who died of inflammation of the pancreas, was admitted to the hospital on Dec 26, and his condition worsened not long after that. <\/p>\n
He is best remembered as one of the nation's most prominent deputy public prosecutors and was responsible for sending gangster Botak Chin to the gallows.<\/p>\n
He also handled the murder trial of former beauty queen Philomena Jean Sinappa, 33, who was stabbed to death, with jealousy believed to be the motive. <\/p>\n
The accused was her late husband's brother, S. Karthi-gesu, who was acquitted. The trial was labelled as one of the most sensational in the nation.<\/p>\n
Sambanthamurthi also pro- secuted in the case of former culture, youth and sports minister Datuk Mokhtar Hashim who was accused of killing former Negri Sembilan speaker Datuk Mohamed Taha Talib. <\/p>\n
Sambanthamurthi's body has been taken to his house at No. 10A, Jalan Keranji 2, off Jalan Ampang Hilir. <\/p>\n
