\u00c2\u201cAs a director, he is supposed to take direction from us and not make press statements. All of this is cakap-cakap sahaja<\/I> (empty talk),\u00c2\u201d he said.
On April 12, Abdul Rahim cited poor design, shoddy workmanship and bad supervision and maintenance as the cause of the burst pipe at the Immigration headquarters in Putrajaya, which saw services halted for the day.
The PWD director also claimed to have seen similar shoddy workmanship at several other buildings in the administrative capital.
A clearly irritated Samy Vellu cautioned the director not to simply shoot his mouth off without facts to back him, adding that the incident at the Immigration office was still under investigation.
\u00c2\u201cWe have sent the pipe to a laboratory to be tested and we are still awaiting results.
\u00c2\u201cWhat I can say now however is that the pipes supplied by Syabas are not the usual cast-iron ones,\u00c2\u201d he said.
Speaking after the handing over ceremony of the new Kuala Lumpur Courts Complex in Jalan Duta here yesterday, Samy Vellu announced that the Government had compensated RM222.4mil in two payments to Gerbang Perdana Sdn Bhd for the cancellation of the Causeway bridge project.
An additional RM35mil will be paid soon for the cancellation of the project, work done before the cancellation and the construction of a new bridge linking the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex and the Causeway.
