source<\/a><\/p>\nSIBU: The prime minister has given his assurance that Chinese, Tamil and mission schools would not be neglected and would be brought into the mainstream of education.<\/p>\n
“We will continue to help these schools because they have an important role to play in the development of the country,” Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said at the opening of the RM7 million SMK St Elizabeth’s Datuk Lau Cheng Kong Centennial Hall here yesterday.<\/p>\n
He said the government wanted these schools to be brought into the country’s development.<\/p>\n
Abdullah said it was the intention of the government to equip and provide students with opportunities to gain knowledge and skills. “Those who could not further their studies at tertiary level will be given opportunities to acquire skills in technical education so they, too, will contribute to the development and prosperity of the country,”
\nHe said the government would continue to provide and develop educational facilities in Sarawak.<\/p>\n
The prime minister urged teachers to guide their students to be good, disciplined citizens. “Teach them to love the country and be proud to call themselves Malaysians,” he said. “I want to see Malaysia, with its multi-ethnic and multi-religious society, have a sense of tolerance, moral values, goodwill and be willing to co-operate with one another. “I want Malaysia to be a peaceful country, without confrontation among the different races.” Abdullah called on the people to maintain the country’s reputation as a multi-racial country which was peaceful, where people respected one another and had high tolerance levels.<\/p>\n
Speaking on the Sarawak Corridor of Renewal Energy (Score) later, the prime minister hoped that the people of Sarawak were prepared to accept positive change.<\/p>\n
On the coming general election, Abdullah again declined to hint. “You can keep on wondering when it is going to be. I will let you know when I am ready,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
