Samy hoping for double celebration<\/p>\n

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu hopes to have a double celebration on polling day.<\/p>\n

On March 8, he hopes to celebrate his 72nd birthday and the victory of his party for retaining all its nine parliamentary and 19 state seats.<\/p>\n

This is the first time that Samy Vellu who has been contesting in Sungai Siput since 1974, would go to the polls on his birthday.<\/p>\n

Samy Vellu, who is also the Works Minister, said the party would have a refreshing look with the fielding of new candidates to inject dynamism and provide a new vision in MIC.<\/p>\n

He said in the last six months, the party had negotiated with the government to look into uplifting the economic status of the Indian community.<\/p>\n

“We are glad that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak have given their commitment,” he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
