He said when the government implements policies and programmes it was meant for all Malaysians irrespective of religion, race, skin colour, age or creed.

“We have never had policies and programmes only meant for a certain group of people. It was never ever done under the Barisan Nasional leadership,” he added at the ground-breaking ceremony for Rumah Harapan Kanak-kanak HIV/AIDS (Miracle of Hope Home) in Salak Tinggi here yesterday,

Najib, who is BN deputy chairman, said the BN government had always ensured that it gave equal access to opportunities which were fair to all.

On the notion of a welfare state being propagated by Pas, Najib said it was not appropriate for the nation to copy that concept where those who were unemployed be given monthly welfare allowance by the government. If we follow that system, then those working will be forced to pay more taxes to enable the government to pay allowances to the unemployed,” he said adding that even developed countries are now finding it not sustainable,” he said. “We are just a developing nation and if we have such a system we will become bankrupt. We want all Malaysians to work.”

The deputy prime minister also expressed concern over Malaysia’s dependency on foreign workers. “Our barbers are now foreigners. Cooks are also foreigners and we have some two million foreigners in the country working in different sectors,” he said.

He also pointed out that Terengganu which was once a Pas-led state is now being ruled by the BN because the people had realised that they can only see development and progress which would benefit them if they voted for the BN. Similarly, he added, the winds of change of government is also being felt by the people in Kelantan.

No group has been marginalised or left out in government policies and programmes, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
