There are 9+19 = 26 places, with 4 confirmed available. How many more new faces will there be? If we take another 5, that means 9 new faces, about 30% of the seats. The current MP and assemblymen are as below:<\/p>\n

Intense lobbying among many MIC aspirants

KUALA LUMPUR: Since MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu announced that many new faces will be fielded in the coming general election, intense lobbying has started among the many party aspirants.
\nMany names are doing the rounds and among the more frequently being mentioned are Federal Territory and Information chief Datuk M. Saravanan and central working committee members, such as T. Mohan and S. Murugesan.\u00a0 Others, such as the National Putera MIC co-ordinator P. Kamalanathan, MIC Selangor state youth leader P. Subramaniam, Puteri chief J. Usha Nandhini and Senator G. Loga Chitra are also said to be on Samy Vellu’s list of preferred candidates.<\/p>\n

Earlier, there were also reports in the Tamil dailies that Samy Vellu’s son, Vell Paari, who is the Maika Holding chief-executive officer, would also be contesting. He was said to be interested in a seat in Johor which is seen as a “safe” seat since the southern state is BN’s stronghold. He has repeatedly denied this.<\/p>\n

Samy Vellu had said that not all new faces will be youngsters as it will be a mixture of party veterans as well. Party insiders said among the veterans could be the Sri Murugan Centre founder and director Datuk Dr. M. Thambirajah and the Malaysian Hindu Dharma Mamandram chairman Associate Professor Dr N.S. Rajendran.<\/p>\n

Some of them, when contacted, refused to comment as Samy Vellu has the tendency not to pick a candidate if they are seen to be lobbying through the media.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
