The MIC education bureau head, Datuk T. Marimuthu, told a seminar for SPM and STPM students that the number of scholarships had increased from 1,800 to 2,000 this year. Last year, <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">130 Indian students<\/span><\/strong> received the coveted scholarships.<!--more-->Marimuthu said: &#8220;Those who apply must perform well in the interviews, which make up 10 points in the assessment.&#8221; He was speaking to 250 students who attended the SPM and STPM guidance and counselling seminar at Menara Manickavasagam yesterday.<br \/>\nRepresentatives from private institutions of higher learning, like the Asian Institute of Medicine, Science and Technology, TAFE College and Masterskills College of Nursing and Health, had set up booths for the students to obtain information on their programmes.<\/p>\n<p>Maju Institute of Education Development (MIED) chief executive officer P. Chitrakala Vasu said STPM students with a 3.0 grade point average can apply for MIED loans.SPM students with eight A1s and above and STPM students with four As and above are also encouraged to submit certified copies of their results along with their contact information to the MIED before the end of this month for awards and for the MIC&#8217;s records.<\/p>\n<p>The MIC education committee is going on a road show through the peninsula to guide Indian students on how to apply for courses in public universities and inform them of the opportunities in other institutes of higher learning.<\/p>\n<p>The road show will be held in Johor Baru, Kluang, Malacca and Seremban today.\u00a0 Tomorrow, they will be in Mentakab and Pahang, and on Thursday they will visit Ipoh. On Saturday, they will be in Sungai Petani.<\/p>\n<p>MIC vice-president Datuk S. Veerasingam, MIC Wanita chief Datin Paduka P. Komala Devi, Cameron Highlands MP S.K Devamani, MIC Puteri chief J. Usha Nandhini and Malaysian Hindu Dharma Mamandram chairman Associate Professor Dr N.S. Rajendran also attended yesterday&#8217;s seminar. MIC president Datuk Seri S.
