He said the MIC would establish a new order to address the grievances of Indians .<\/p>\n “We must be united, that is our strength. I will meet all the groups<\/span><\/strong> and iron out our differences.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The Star<\/a>:<\/p>\n MIC secretary-general Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam says his appointment as Human Resource Minister would benefit low-income groups, especially Indians<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n “This appointment is an opportunity for us to implement capacity-building programmes for the unemployed and low-income group<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n “This is more relevant for the Indian community as there is a need for skills training programmes<\/strong><\/span>,” said the Segamat MP.<\/p>\n The 54-year-old skin specialist said more pro-active programmes and projects would be implemented for the benefit of estate workers<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n “I will ensure that their welfare and rights are protected<\/strong><\/span> and the relationship between the Government and unions will also be a priority<\/span><\/strong>,” he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n SK Devamany<\/strong><\/p>\n from NST<\/a><\/p>\n His [Dr S.Subramaniam] sentiments were echoed by Devamani, who hoped that everyone in the community would come together and work towards a greater nation.<\/p>\n “We have been shown the discontent of the people. We must make sure that we hear the heartbeat of the people on the ground in future,” he said.<\/p>\n He regarded his duty as a deputy minister in the prime minister’s department as a great challenge and said that he hoped to meet the expectations of the people.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
\n‘In doing so, I would like to increase their employment prospects<\/span><\/strong> and their ability to improve their economic status. That will be my main focus<\/strong><\/span>.”<\/p>\n
