source<\/a><\/p>\nSEREMBAN: Trouble is brewing in the state MIC with six of the eight Youth divisions asking their state chairman Datuk T. Rajagopalu to step down.<\/p>\n
This came a day after Anti-Corruption Agency officers queried state party officials over alleged discrepancies in fund-raising activities for the newly-completed state headquarters.<\/p>\n
It is understood that the ACA officers took away several documents from the party headquarters.<\/p>\n
State treasurer S. Sellakrishnan confirmed that he was questioned by the ACA officials but was quick to add that the accounts were in order. “However, if there are donors who claim that they had given money but it is not shown in our accounts, the ACA is free to investigate,” he said.<\/p>\n
State MIC Youth chief R. Rajaendran said the Youth wing had lost confidence in Rajagopalu. “The Indians are not happy with the state leadership. Wherever we go, they have nothing good to say about the party or its leaders,” he said.<\/p>\n
Rajaendran said that a memorandum signed by six state divisional Youth leaders had been sent to party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.<\/p>\n
The state MIC failed to win two of its three seats in the general election. Rajagopalu, who was also in the previous state exco, lost his Port Dickson state seat to PKR’s Ravi Munusamy while party vice-president and former Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk S. Sothinathan failed to retain his Teluk Kemang parliamentary seat. The MIC, however, retained its Jeram Padang state seat through state secretary V.S. Mogan.<\/p>\n
When contacted, Rajagopalu said he was unperturbed by the state Youth leaders’ actions.\u00a0 “Rajaendran is forgetting that he himself can be removed anytime. I will call for a state meeting soon to iron out some of these issues,” he said.<\/p>\n
On the visit by the ACA officials, Rajagopalu said he had no knowledge of it.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Samy Vellu reminded members that the president appointed the state MIC chairman and the state Youth leader and any dissatisfaction should be raised with the president first. “In fact, if all of them had functioned properly, we could have won a few more seats,” he said.Samy Vellu defended Rajagopalu and said he was an effective leader.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
