Subramaniam to intervene in its demand for cost of living allowance (Cola) for its members in view of the high cost of goods and services. Its secretary-general, Datuk G. Sankaran, said it was the only way some kind of resolution could be reached between the union and the Malayan Agricultural Producers Association (Mapa) over the matter.<\/p>\n<p>He said in a statement yesterday that plantation workers, burdened by the rise in prices, needed Cola but Mapa had refused despite making high profits on plantation produce such as rubber and palm oil,<\/p>\n<p>The union would seek an appointment with Dr Subramaniam over the matter as a meeting with the director-general of the ministry&#8217;s industrial relations department before the general election <span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><strong>bore no results<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>He said the NUPW wanted an assurance that promises made by political parties on improving the lives of plantation workers were honoured through the payment of Cola. &#8211; Bernama<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier, NUPW tried their luck with Fong Chan On.
