If I’m not mistaken, the Japanese government suffered a lot politically and socially due to the loss in WW2. The country was constitutionally bound not to involve in foreign issues, need to get approval to expand its army, it paid loads of money for the “comfort women”, and is constantly reminded of is crime from time to time. And I can’t recall any conditional apologies being made. But in our local case, the apology is offset with an “if” and looks more like political strategy rather than sincere from the heart. The feeling is that the apology is valueless. Samy is spot on when he says “If we talk further, we don’t respect the apology”! Its just a political move.

Another thing that Samy mentioned was that 41 schools were built. Now, this is typical misleading statement. Last I counted, the number of Tamil schools did not increase at all. So, where are the schools? Isn’t it clear that what he meant by “built” is actually either to “rebuilt” (same location or relocated) or expand (add buildings)?. Basically, its maintenance work. This is how the people get angry. When proper information is not given, and people are taken to be fools.

In IPOH, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu described Hishammuddin’s open apology to all Malaysians as gentlemanly and befitting a good young leader.

It was also in line with the principle put forward by famous author Dale Carnegie in one of his well-known books, “How to Win Friends and Influence People”, he said. “He is a gentleman, a good young leader. He follows the principle of Dane Carnegie who said that ‘if you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically’ but I must say Datuk Seri Hishammuddin is an effective and very good leader.

“Without him, I don’t think today we would have built 41 Tamil schools in one go. This was the money that he gave when I was Minister for Works,” he told reporters at the Evertronics Skill Development Centre in Wisma Wan Mohammad.

Samy Vellu said all parties should now respect the apology and not to raise the issue again. “When somebody says he is sorry we should just keep quiet after that, we should not talk anything further. If we talk further, we don’t respect the apology,” he said.

When asked to comment on Hishammuddin who is Education Minister, offering the apology only now, Samy Vellu said: “Never mind. You see, after the Second World War after the death of so many million people, the Emperor of Japan said ‘I am sorry’. What is wrong if Hishammuddin said it after six months or 12 months or 15 months. He has said it, that is more important”.

source

Samy compares the apology by hishamuddin with the one by japanese emperor over the deaths during WW2.
