source\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\nIPOH: Ipoh Barat MP M. Kulasegaran must quit as an elected representative if he wants the job of Ipoh Datuk Bandar, said PKR assemblyman Chang Lih Kang.<\/p>\n
Chang, who is Teja assemblyman, said he was shocked when he was informed that the second-term DAP MP was interested in becoming the Datuk Bandar.<\/p>\n
“I am strongly against Kula vying for the mayor post unless he gives up his position as the MP for Ipoh Barat,” said Chang, who is also Perak PKR Youth deputy information chief.<\/p>\n
Chang said all this in his blog posting yesterday.<\/p>\n
“It has got nothing to do with race, capability or political party. “The only reason is that Kula is the MP for Ipoh Barat,” he wrote. “It is sickening to see an individual holding two very important posts at the same time,” he said.<\/p>\n
Chang also said that the people deserved more than a part-time mayor and MP.<\/p>\n
Kulasegaran had been quoted on a news website as saying that he would be able to address the problems of the people if he were to be selected as Datuk Bandar.\u00a0 He said that as a two-term Ipoh Barat MP, he knew the city and its people well so he would be able to better address them as the Datuk Bandar.<\/p>\n
Chang also wrote that he hoped the matter could be settled within the Pakatan Rakyat or else another round of “political chaos” would occur in Perak.<\/p>\n
It is learnt that the three parties have not discussed the issue of a new Datuk Bandar. The tenure of current Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohammad Rafiai Moktar ends in June.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
