Uthayakumar, one of the five Hindraf leaders being detained under the ISA, may be suffering from a heart ailment and should be referred to the National Heart Institute (IJN) immediately, his lawyer N. Surendran said.<\/p>\n<p>He said an echocardiogram carried out on Uthayakumar by a specialist at the Taiping Hospital on Sunday found that his client&#8217;s heart muscle had been damaged, a condition referred to as &#8220;hypokinetic&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The specialist said this condition merits referral to IJN,&#8221; he told reporters outside the Kamunting detention centre on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Surendran claimed that despite Uthayakumar&#8217;s worsening, the authorities have failed to give him the proper attention and that he was contemplating filing legal proceedings.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2008\/5\/1\/nation\/21104625&amp;sec=nation\" target=\"_blank\">source<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TAIPING: P.
