Other state representatives of Selangor were sworn in at the Dewan Undangan Negeri in Shah Alam on April 22.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Among those present to witness the ceremony were his wife and three children, lawyers and legal advisers from the state, Home Ministry and the Prisons Department. A simple lunch was served after the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Teng told reporters that Manoharan looked healthy and was in good spirits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In fine spirits<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;He was also very touched by the whole swearing-in ceremony &#8211; even though it was held in prison,&#8221; said Teng. &#8220;He (Manoharan) didn&#8217;t have much to say except that he hopes to be released soon.<\/p>\n<p>Teng echoed Manoharan&#8217;s sentiments and urged the government to release him as soon as possible. &#8220;During the last elections, Manoharan won with a huge majority. This shows that voters are not afraid of him and do not see him as a national threat. So, why keep him in Kamunting any longer?&#8221; asked Teng.<\/p>\n<p>During the March 8 elections, Manoharan polled 12,699 votes to Gerakan candidate Ching Su Chen&#8217;s 5,515 for the Kota Alam Shah seat.<\/p>\n<p>Manoharan was arrested on Dec 13 with four others shortly after the Nov 25 rally organised by Hindraf which drew some 30,000 people to the streets.<\/p>\n<p>His detention however does not legally affect his position as a state representative as there are no written laws to stipulate that an ISA detainee cannot continue to perform his or her duties while being detained.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Manoharan sworn in at last Chan Kok Leong | May 8, 08 1:43pm http:\/\/malaysiakini.com\/news\/82519 DAP Kota Alam Shah assemblyperson M Manoharan was sworn in at 9am today in front of Selangor Speaker Teng Chang Khim at the Kamunting detention camp in Taiping.
