Possibly the case of\u00a0 YB Manoharan is one of the strong reasons for this move. Will the other states follow suit?<\/p>\n<p>Also heard that Bar Council also had started a fund for the family of detained lawyer (4 of the\u00a0 Hindraf leaders).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The Selangor government will provide financial and welfare assistance to families of those held under the Internal Security Act (ISA), which allows detention without trial.<br \/>\nMenteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said these measures would be taken up by the state government to help the wives and children of these detainees to ease their burden during the difficult period.\u00a0 He added that his government will look into bearing the travelling costs for families to visit the detention camp every week.\u00a0 At the same time, he said that children of the detainees may apply for state government scholarships to further their studies.\u00a0 The wives too will be encouraged to look into various ways to become involved in businesses to help them earn a living, he said.\u00a0 &#8220;Life can be difficult for them but they must continue to fight,&#8221; he said after receiving a memorandum from the Abolish ISA Movement (GMI) today.<\/p>\n<p>DAP state assemblyperson M Manoharan is one of about 70 ISA detainees being held presently at the Kamunting detention centre.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/malaysiakini.com\/news\/83457\" target=\"_blank\">source<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/malaysiakini.com\/news\/83457\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a><\/p>\n<hr size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/>\n<blockquote><p>SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has pledged to help the families of Internal Security Act (ISA) detainees by providing welfare assistance.\u00a0 Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim said several steps could be taken to help the wives and children of these detainees, to help them through difficult times.\u00a0 The state government could bear the travelling costs for families to visit the detention camp every week, he said.\u00a0 The children could get scholarships to further their studies, and ways can be found for the wives to become entrepreneurs.\u00a0 &#8220;Life can be difficult for them but they must continue to fight,&#8221; he said after receiving a memorandum from Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA (GMI or Abolish ISA Movement) here on Monday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"thttp:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2008\/5\/26\/nation\/20080526161637&amp;sec=nation\" target=\"_blank\">source<\/a><\/p>\n<hr size=\"1\" width=\"100%\" \/><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p> SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government will provide scholarships to the children of 16 people from the state who have been detained under the Internal Security Act (ISA).
