However, in the last one day, the Selangor government, through Kumpulan Darul Ehsan Berhad (KDEB) has managed to successfully negotiate a longer payment period.<\/p>\n<p>Even though the free water plan is <a href=\"http:\/\/malaysiakini.com\/news\/84320\" target=\"_blank\">starting from June 16<\/a> and will be reflected from next month&#8217;s bill onwards, nonetheless its been successfully pulled off by Pakatan government. But for how long it can be sustained is a question mark. The subsidy is expected to cost RM1.1 million per month for 20 cubic metre per household (according to <a href=\"http:\/\/malaysiakini.com\/news\/84320\" target=\"_blank\">Malaysiakini<\/a>). However, NST <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/Current_News\/NST\/Thursday\/National\/2265339\/Article\/index_html\" target=\"_blank\">reports<\/a> that its going to cost a whopping RM10.8 million per month! The Star <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2008\/6\/12\/nation\/21527937&amp;sec=nation\" target=\"_blank\">provided<\/a> its own figure of RM1.8 million per month. Looks like 3 parties with three different figures.<\/p>\n<p>There are arguments that providing free water will make people more wasteful and less concerned about conserving water.
