just before the elections, Mahathir condemned<\/a> Samy Vellu, saying Samy never did much for the community. Samy still kept quiet.\u00a0 If one can recall all the way back to 2006, Samy was quoted<\/a> By Nanban and Makkal Osai as saying in his speech during Johor MIC Convention that:<\/p>\n

Mahathir had promised ‘this and that but in the end told the community nehi (‘no’ in Hindi)’.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

He later denied making such statements, and planned to sue the two dailies. MIC supporters also burnt the newspapers and threatened the offices of the dailies. He called up Mahathir and explained the situation to him. The following day, he clarified via<\/a> Malaysiakini:<\/p>\n

MIC president S Samy Vellu today said that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad had done a lot for the Indian Malaysian community during his 22-year tenure.<\/p>\n

The veteran politician, who telephoned malaysiakini from Sarawak, claimed that his statements were distorted by Tamil dailies Makkal Osai and Malaysia Nanban.\u00a0 The dailies reported that Samy Vellu told MIC delegates at a party convention in Johor on Tuesday that Mahathir did not do anything for the community and had failed to keep his promises made under the Eighth Malaysia Plan (8MP).<\/p>\n

“For the information of malaysiakini readers, I hold Mahathir as a high-esteemed leader in my heart. Anything he ordered, we did right away,” said Samy Vellu, who is also works minister.\u00a0 “He (Mahathir) is a great leader who has helped us (the Indian Malaysian community) a lot,” he added.<\/p>\n

Among others, Samy Vellu said, the former premier had given the community RM120 million to build a university, RM8 million for the Tafe college in Seremban and money to build 60 Tamil schools nationwide.<\/p>\n

“On several occasions, he (Mahathir) had done his best for the community,” he stressed\u00a0 “It was unfortunate that down the line some of these were not carried out and we did not achieve the three percent equity target under the 8MP,” he added<\/p>\n

The real \u2018Nehi’<\/strong><\/p>\n

As for his speech at the Johor convention, Samy Vellu maintained that he was misquoted by the two dailies. “I never said that Mahathir did not do anything for the community.”\u00a0 He said the matter cropped up when a delegate had asked about the three percent equity.<\/p>\n

The minister explained that he was telling delegates that on several occasions, MIC had requested the government to have a monitoring unit in order to check that decisions concerning the community were implemented. And it is to this, Samy Vellu claimed that he said \u2018Nehi’ (\u2018No’ in Hindi) – as in the request did not materialise. The two dailies, however, quoted him as telling delegates that Mahathir said \u2018Nehi’ to the allocations for the community under the 8MP.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Wow…looks like Mahathir is the saviour of Indians. He gave money, he “did\u00a0 lot”, “on several occasions done his best” etc.<\/p>\n

Now, you may wonder all this is about. On Tuesday, NST boldly highlighted Samy’s statement<\/a>: Dr M failed the Indian community<\/strong><\/span>! Just two years down the lane, he claims Mahathir, from a person who had done a lot for the community, had now failed them!<\/p>\n

Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad did very little for the Indian community when he was prime minister, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said yesterday.
\nSamy Vellu said the Indians had to struggle on their own for more than 140 years and achieved success only through sheer hard work .<\/p>\n

“Despite the MIC appealing again and again for help, he refused to budge,” Samy Vellu said in response to Dr Mahathir’s remarks during a talk in Teluk Intan on Saturday.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What more proof do we need to understand Samy? I think whatever little respect he had is gone since he is a liar. Anything Samy says cannot be trusted anymore. Oh..wait, is this another case of misquoted and will Samy sue NST as well?<\/p>\n

This is among the most serious lies ever mentioned by a party leader in recent times. Perhaps he thought no one will remember, but there are plenty of people who have highlighted this. Its embarrassing and humiliating to see that the Indian community\u00a0 claimed to be represented by leader who lies without batting an eyelid.<\/p>\n
