DESPITE her hectic schedule tending to her young child-ren, housewife G. Muru-gayee still has time to do cha- rity work and help the less for-tunate.  <\/p>\n

Every day, Murugayee, 46, will ferry ill and destitute patients to and from Ipoh Hospital.  <\/p>\n

She also travels from her house in Taman Wah Keong, Ipoh, to visit inmates at an old folks home in Langkap, about 70km away, and attend to their needs.  <\/p>\n

She organises religious talks and functions for the young to boost their self-esteem.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

“Every time she gets a call from the Ipoh Hospital about poor sick patients who need help, she is there for them.  <\/p>\n

“This demonstrates selfless love and care,” said Sri Sathya Sai Baba Ipoh Centre chairman N. N. Bala-krishnan.  <\/p>\n

For her efforts, Murugayee was honoured Mother of the Year by the centre during a ceremony at Sri Subramaniam Temple in Gunung Cheroh, Ipoh, recently.   <\/p>\n

Murugayee, who hails from Pe-nang, received a golden shawl from Naranjan Dass, the most senior lady of the centre.  <\/p>\n

Apart from doing housework and tending to the needy, Murugayee also looks after her elderly mother-in-law and intellectually-challenged brother-in-law.  <\/p>\n

“I feel honoured and thank the centre for this award. I dedicate it to my family for supporting me.  <\/p>\n

“Helping the needy gives me great pleasure. It’s something I acquired since my childhood days,” said Murugayee, who is married to offshore oil rig company supervisor B. Prithivi Raj.  <\/p>\n

Buntong assemblyman Datuk Yik Phooi Hong, in his Mother’s Day message, said the people must help the needy.  <\/p>\n

“As a Chinese born in the Tamil settlement of Buntong, I under-stand the Hindu traditions and learn about the Bhagavad-Gita.  <\/p>\n

“Teachings from the holy book have guided me in performing my duty as a state assemblyman,” he said.   <\/p>\n
