Speaker Sivakumar today provided more clarification<\/a> over allegations that he lied<\/a> about not knowing about notice for assembly sitting:<\/p>\n

Perak Assembly Speaker V. Sivakumar vehemently denied he had known about the issuance of notices on the May 7 state assembly sitting as alleged in a report in an English daily Monday.<\/p>\n

In a faxed statement Tuesday, Sivakumar reiterated that he had never been aware of the notices and had only first heard about the sitting from an assemblyman last Thursday<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe assemblyman said that a reliable source had said that assembly sitting would be held on May 7. Before that day, I never knew anything about the sitting,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Sivakumar was responding to an English daily report Monday in which an unnamed source supposedly close to the Mentri Besar\u2019s office had accused Sivakumar of lying about his knowledge of the notices.<\/p>\n

The source had claimed that Sivakumar had even met with State Assembly secretary Abdullah Antong Sabri last Friday prior to notices being issued.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the source claimed the duo had allegedly even examined official documents from the palace pertaining to the Ruler\u2019s consent for the May 7 sitting.<\/p>\n

\u201cI only met with Abdullah at 3pm that day, after Friday prayers and only after the notices had already been distributed.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIn that informal meeting, I never saw any documents from the palace,\u201d Sivakumar said.<\/p>\n

Sivakumar added that he had only known about the notices earlier Friday morning, following phone calls from several assemblymen who had received them.<\/p>\n

He said that he had also phoned his office in the State Secretariat and found out from his staff that the same notice had been delivered to him there at 10am<\/strong><\/span>…<\/p>\n

… Earlier Tuesday, Abdullah, when approached by reporters at the State Secretariat here, told reporters that the issue of whether he had met with Sivakumar on the May 7 sitting \u201cshould not arise.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that it had already been common knowledge that the Ruler had granted consent for the sitting.<\/p>\n

\u201cRest assured, proper legal procedures were followed. The issue of whether Speaker and I met does not arise<\/strong><\/span>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He however refused to comment<\/strong><\/span> on whether he had briefed or informed Sivakumar on the notices before sending them out.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
