In a surprising move, the government lifted<\/a> the restrictive compulsory 30% bumiputra equity ruling with immediate effect for 27 subsectors. Its not known if the move is temporary or permanent. If I’m not mistaken, there was some issue with Digi ownership few years back due to high foreign company equity. The subsectors are as below:<\/p>\n

Computer and related services<\/strong>
\n* Consultancy services relating to the installation of computer software.
\n* Software implementation services \u2014 systems and software consulting services, systems analysis services, systems design services, programming services and system maintenance services.
\n* Data processing services \u2014 input preparation services, data processing and tabulation services, time sharing services and other data processing services.
\n* Database services.
\n* Maintenance and repair services of computers.
\n* Other services \u2014 data preparation services, training services, data recovery services and development of creative content<\/p>\n


\nHealth and Social Services<\/strong>
\n* All veterinary services
\n* Welfare services delivered through residential institutions to old person and the handicapped.
\n* Welfare services delivered through residential institutions to children.
\n* Child day-care services including day-care services for the handicapped.
\n* Vocational rehabilitation services for handicapped.<\/p>\n

Tourism services<\/strong>
\n* Theme park
\n* Convention and exhibition centre (seating capacity of above 5,000)
\n* Travel agencies and tour operators services (for inbound travel only).
\n* Hotel and restaurant services (for four and five-star hotels only)
\n* Food serving services (for four and five-star hotels only)
\n* Beverage services services for consumption on the premises (for four and five-star hotels only).<\/p>\n

Transport Services<\/strong>
\n* Class C Freight Transportation (private carrier licence)<\/p>\n

Sporting and other recreational services<\/strong>
\n* Sporting services (sports event promotion and organisation services).<\/p>\n

Business services<\/strong>
\n* Regional Distribution Centre.
\n* International Procurement Centre.
\n* Technical testing and analysis services – composition and purity testing and analysis services, testing and analysis services of physical properties, integrated mechanical and electrical systems and technical inspection services.
\n* Management consulting services – general, financial, marketing, human resources, production and public relations services.<\/p>\n

Rental\/leasing services without operators<\/strong>
\n* rental\/leasing services of ships that excludes cabotage and offshore trades
\n* Rental of cargo vessels without crew (bareboat charter) for international shipping.<\/p>\n

Supporting and auxilliary transport services<\/strong>
\n* Maritime agency services
\n* Vessel salvage and refloating services<\/p>\n

This means foreign investors find one less condition to fulfill. No idea if this applies to to local players and also if the companies without 30% bumi equity can apply for projects because some of the tenders\/projects require that companies have bumi partners.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
