Last time, the Education Minister Hishamuddin announced that such kids will be accepted in schools, but the implementation by Education Ministry did not materialise properly. Parents still had problems because some schools said &#8220;no pekeliling came&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Minister Shahrizat announces similar thing\u00a0 &#8211; as long as <a href=\" http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2009\/5\/15\/nation\/3909589&amp;sec=nation\" target=\"_blank\">children are having referral letter<\/a> from Welfare Department, they can go to school:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">PETALING JAYA: Malaysian children without birth certificates can now attend government-aided schools provided they have a referral from the Social Welfare Department (JKM).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">All they need is a confirmation from JKM or their village headmen that they were born in Malaysia, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cParents of children without birth certificates should come forward and seek assistance from the authorities,\u201d she said during a visit to the Taman Megah\u2019s Handicapped and Disabled Children\u2019s Home yesterday.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Four children who were abandoned at the home have been unable to attend school as they were without birth certificates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The matter, which was reported in <em>The Star<\/em>, caught the attention of Shahrizat.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She said her ministry had been working with the National Registration Department (NRD) and NGOs to provide birth certificates for these children and put them in school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">JKM Selangor director Adnan Abu Bakar said they would provide social reports and referral letters for the children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">NRD Births, Deaths and Adoptions director Mohd Azmin Hassan said they would wait for JKM\u2019s referral letters before processing birth certificates for the children.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe will try our best to get the birth certificates within a month, but we make no promises,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The issue of kids without birth certificates being rejected from schools have been around for ages.
