For starters, UM announced the <a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/7\/nation\/18807986&amp;sec=nation\">appointment of  <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/7\/nation\/18807986&amp;sec=nation\">Prof Dr Khaw Lake Tee<\/a> as the new deputy V-C (development) with effect from Sept 1 to Aug 31, 2010 in the same article. This was followed by this article in Star again (8\/9\/2007), which saw <a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/8\/nation\/18826166&amp;sec=nation\"> UPM appoint <\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/8\/nation\/18826166&amp;sec=nation\">Prof Dr Tai Shzee Yew<\/a> as its new deputy vice-chancellor (VC) (industry and society).   <a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/education\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/9\/education\/18765383\">UNIVERSITI Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) has appointed a new vice-chancellor<\/a>, Prof Datuk Dr Aminah Ayob, with effect from Sept 1 as mentioned in the article on 9\/9\/2007. Finally, <a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/11\/nation\/18841949&amp;sec=nation\">Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) has appointed Prof Dr Saran Kaur Gill <\/a>&nbsp; as its deputy vice-chancellor (industry and community relations).<\/p>\n<p>Prof Dr Saran&#39;s bio:<\/p>\n<table align=\"left\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"7\" width=\"144\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td> \t\t \t<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>A socio-linguistics expert with the Centre for Language and Linguistic Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Prof Dr Saran&#8217;s new role will be to foster closer ties between the university and industry, as well as the community, the university said in a press release yesterday.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> The 54-year-old lecturer holds an honour&#8217;s degree in Arts from Universiti Malaya, a Diploma in Education specialising in the Teaching of English as a Second Language, a Master&#8217;s in Education and a PhD from the Insti-tute of Education at the University of London. She began her career in UKM in 1976 as a language teacher. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> Her achievements include sitting on the Unesco Scientific Committee for the Asia-Pacific Region for Higher Education, Research and Knowledge in 2004, and receiving the Fulbright Scholars Award. &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/11\/nation\/18841949&amp;sec=nation\">source<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/news\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/9\/11\/nation\/18841949&amp;sec=nation\"> <br \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Is this a sweetener to attact overseas experts and also to reduce brain drain? Very surprising to see employees from different race to be chosen as Deputy VC.
