Read about the previous day <a href=\"http:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/personal\/2009\/09\/24\/india-trip-day-6\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After a long hiatus (like 1.3 years!), I managed to write about day 7 of our journey (just thinking about\u00a0 writing on the next 20-days to go gives me a headache!).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">OK, here we go: We woke up quite early (around 6am) but our driver didn&#8217;t!We took the chance to take photos around the hotel.\u00a0 The hotel listed useful info such as places of interest and distance. Quite useful if you snap a photo of it for reference.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/uEUQ2tLnLo0Xma_SbBAi6A?feat=embedwebsite\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3Wrogcq3I\/AAAAAAAAbHo\/ZF6Ri9YJ6-w\/s400\/DSC_0001.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/dQOsSlJXBrDO1mcCP9EiSw?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3Ws_sODZI\/AAAAAAAAbHw\/Njx7ouWcdvc\/s400\/DSC_0002.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/NdJGh1TKlsAp_ceasOgNEg?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3Wv3wbhlI\/AAAAAAAAbIU\/XL1grhTlZOk\/s400\/DSC_0009.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The garden<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/-In8ei2-cx5UUqkIJteCfw?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YqCVs2pI\/AAAAAAAAbek\/MtdaN1-GX0w\/s400\/DSC_0375.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Still use old style padlock!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ended up leaving the hotel around 7.10am for our first destination, the famed UN World Heritage Site-listed <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Brihadeeswarar_Temple\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Brihadeeswarar Temple<\/strong><\/a> aka Tanjavur Periya Koyil (Big temple). The temple is huge due to the large ground area. The main deity is Lord Shiva in his lingam form (4 metres high!). The temple looks similar to Airavateswar Temple (which we <a href=\"http:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/personal\/2009\/09\/24\/india-trip-day-6\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>visited on Day 6<\/strong><\/a>). The parking cost Rs10. The crowd was less, and we were blessed to witness the abishegam ceremony for Lord Shiva. Left the temple at 9.30am for breakfast.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/amUrycPfKm5oBJLuZ2cgdw?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3W1FfOEyI\/AAAAAAAAbJU\/mnHAkJUTTT4\/s400\/DSC_0031.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/ctKY04J_iMLr4zcvMIi-zQ?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3WyG4Rm6I\/AAAAAAAAbIw\/SjOGKU5zWjU\/s400\/DSC_0018.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/fplD-qC9p9bxuVCngJoA0w?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3W32MBXNI\/AAAAAAAAbJ4\/1cW2_2JnYeg\/s400\/DSC_0035.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Had breakfast at nearby Abirami Restaurant, and then followed by trip to Tanjavur Palace which houses the museum.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/yqwA5vmdxTGVG5kUb0Napg?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3Xa-wS65I\/AAAAAAAAbQc\/68r6QkmcFNE\/s400\/DSC_0197.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/2dka5BVaKUNi05MHujQ7Ag?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3XcVYV6aI\/AAAAAAAAbQw\/2JwG35nJD6A\/s400\/DSC_0199.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The museum houses many artefacts from early as 7th century AD. A must visit for history and archeology fans. There&#8217;s also a shopping gallery called the Tanjore Collections on the upper floor, under the auspices of Tanjore Handicrafts Workers Co-op Cottage Industry Society. Spent about 30 minutes here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/T-9xR98-OfykVqwt9p3VfQ?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YOCLpL5I\/AAAAAAAAbZw\/u_-SZVoDnhE\/s400\/DSC_0316.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/vHiFdQrDp3vgv_CBOvaeRQ?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh3.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YQvSj-bI\/AAAAAAAAbaM\/O7OONUNOh1Y\/s400\/DSC_0322.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We proceeded to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thyagaraja.org\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Saint Tyagaraja<\/strong><\/a> Samadhi in <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thiruvaiyaru\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Tiruvayaru<\/strong><\/a>. He was a renowned poet and musician who lived in the 18th century.\u00a0 He was born in Tiruvarur (not to be confused with Tiruvayaru which is close tho each other) and was named in honor of Lord Tyagaraja of Tiruvarur (The Tiruvarur chariot comes to mind).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/QX6kmUlAGVsip6c8-t0oew?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YT3m_3VI\/AAAAAAAAbaw\/uVaGCM76m_g\/s400\/DSC_0333.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/r6u7nrNR6dA8nMCr2eOQ3g?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YVoogwwI\/AAAAAAAAbbA\/Ql48x1C_yJU\/s400\/DSC_0337.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/IP4vaUtSnlSru4sueExJdw?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YWe77oMI\/AAAAAAAAbbI\/arQSg-F7A8A\/s400\/DSC_0338.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Samadhi is located on the banks of Kaveri river. Around middle of the year, Kaveri looks like desert!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/G4NmQobZZNmWQ5lSTkPWAg?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YbkKgndI\/AAAAAAAAbcA\/Jz2xSUMuLHI\/s400\/DSC_0348.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Kaveri looks like this after rainy season starts:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Kaviri_at_Thiruvaiyaru.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"lightbox[5682]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" title=\"Kaveri River at Tiruvayaru\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/a\/a8\/Kaviri_at_Thiruvaiyaru.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"488\" height=\"365\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We then stopped by the Arkondan Big Temple but since it was noon time, the temple was closed. We walked around and got kind of chased away since they didn&#8217;t like us snooping around.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/opNPkX-wHREo9xw4pbUcLA?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh4.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3YeCKiJ2I\/AAAAAAAAbcc\/5F48aawscdc\/s400\/DSC_0352.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unique feature: Two Vinayagars<\/p>\n<p>Left at 2.30pm to our next destination, shopping at Poompuhar Handcidraf Centre next to our hotel. We spent about 1.5 hours there and then check-out from hotel to proceed to Sivaganga Park.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Sivaganga Park is just like our playground or parks, except that its quite run down and simple-looking. There&#8217;s a diesel powered train that runs through the park, which takes about 10 minutes. The diesel smell is overwhelming, so skip it if can. You can walk the entire park within 20 minutes actually. Nothing much to see except some animals in cages. You can also view the gopuram of Brihadeeswarar Temple from the park. The park houses Sivaganga Teppakulam (water tank). Took about 2.5 hours. We checked into Hotel Mathura near the Tiruchi bus station. Had our dinner at the Sri Krishna garden\/open air restaurant nearby. The meal was delicious.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/picasaweb.google.com\/lh\/photo\/BBVuQVE9cW3veLy0NIYlDg?feat=embedwebsite\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/lh6.ggpht.com\/_uUFNEBmewW4\/TI3Yx8Rl77I\/AAAAAAAAbgE\/rGh3vuB_VPs\/s400\/IMG00108-20090710-2035.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s about it for Day 7.
