The main points from the article:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; land belongs to Malaysians who rent it out to these people. The families spent money to built their houses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; the people who rent the land are Indonesian with PR status.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; from the phot0s, \u00a0can see cars, astro dish ouside the houses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211; the families&#8217; financial status doesn&#8217;t allow for loans from banks to buy properties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Question: If the financial capability is not strong, can the person still get PR? Don&#8217;t they need to have a proper job, and pass various strict conditions imposed by the government? Is it that easy to get PR status for certain people, because I read in papers that professionals \u00a0and people who lived all their lives in Malaysia also can&#8217;t get PR? \u00a0Should these people be offered PPR flats since they are considered low-income Malaysians? What action can be taken against the land owner, who probably misled the tenants? Will DBKL take any action or things would be &#8220;adjusted&#8221;?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<div id=\"story_content\">\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A row of shacks along Jalan Duta near Kampung Segambut Dalam in Kuala Lumpur has become an eyesore for those who come into the city through the North-South Highway.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 14 houses are built eight months ago by\u00a0<strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Indonesians with permanent resident (PR) status on a land that belongs to a Malaysian<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Resident Jaafar Sawar, 42, said they were renting the land from a Malaysian owner.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 414px; text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial;\" src=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/archives\/2009\/10\/1\/central\/m_pg02houses.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"248\" \/><strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Permanent:<\/strong> Some of the 14 shacks that have been built at the site.<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The rent amounts to RM200 for each house.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Jaafar, who has been in Malaysia since 1985, said\u00a0<strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">he spent RM40,000 building his three-room, zink-roofed house<\/span><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cI am looking after this place. Every month I collect the RM200 rental from the others and pass it to the owner,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He added that the land had been lying idle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The residents, however, did not obtain any building permits from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c<strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">It is on private land, so what we do on it is supposed to be up to us<\/span><\/strong>,\u201d Jaafar said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, four months ago, they were issued notices of demolition by the DBKL for building illegal structures.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 244px; text-align: justify;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: 0px initial initial;\" src=\"http:\/\/thestar.com.my\/archives\/2009\/10\/1\/central\/m_pg02backlane.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"337\" \/><strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Unfinished:<\/strong> A backlane in between the houses.<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThe landowner went to sort things out with the DBKL and, so far, nothing has happened.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cDBKL officers have visited several times to take pictures of the place but nothing else has been done,\u201d he said<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before this, the residents were living at a different plot of land in the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng said the Indonesian colony in the Segambut area was huge and the new colony was not the only one.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most of the homes are built on private land owned by Malaysians and then rented out to Indonesians with PR status.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201c<strong style=\"font-weight: bold;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">They hold red identification cards so it is difficult for them to buy a house of their own.
