{"id":635,"date":"2007-10-23T09:45:11","date_gmt":"2007-10-23T01:45:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/borninmalaysia\/2007\/10\/23\/what-does-it-mean-by-being-affluent\/"},"modified":"2007-10-23T09:45:11","modified_gmt":"2007-10-23T01:45:11","slug":"what-does-it-mean-by-being-affluent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/borninmalaysia\/2007\/10\/23\/what-does-it-mean-by-being-affluent\/","title":{"rendered":"What does it mean by being affluent?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hi all,<\/p>\n<p>Recently, the newspaper carried an article quoting a minister as saying that families with household income of RM6500 is considered affluent (meaning official government criteria &#8211; not play play one).<\/p>\n<p> Let&#39;s assume that household here refers to a family of 4 or 5 person (parents + 2\/3 children). 20 foreigners living under one roof, 10 college students sharing an apartment, 3 expats sharing a condo, etc, we would not consider. <\/p>\n<p>Affluent, according to dictionary means: <br \/>&#8211; <font size=\"-1\">a person who is financially well off <br \/>&#8211; <\/font><font size=\"-1\">having an abundant supply of money or possessions of value<br \/>&#8211; <\/font><font size=\"-1\">well-off financially, rich<br \/>&#8211; <\/font>generously supplied with money, property, or possessions; prosperous or rich <br \/>&#8211;  A person who is well-off financially<br \/>&#8211; Possessing a large amount of money, land, or other material possessions<br \/>&#8211; Having more than enough money<\/p>\n<p>Well, I think you get the point.<\/p>\n<p>My questions:  <\/p>\n<p>1. Are you affluent based on the above household criteria?<br \/>2. Do you think that RM6500 is a fair indication of being affluent?<br \/>3.
