{"id":674,"date":"2007-11-01T09:00:22","date_gmt":"2007-11-01T01:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/borninmalaysia\/2007\/11\/01\/mid-valley-enters-deepavali-mood\/"},"modified":"2007-11-02T22:51:33","modified_gmt":"2007-11-02T14:51:33","slug":"mid-valley-enters-deepavali-mood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/borninmalaysia\/2007\/11\/01\/mid-valley-enters-deepavali-mood\/","title":{"rendered":"mid valley enters deepavali mood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mid Valley Megamall sets the mood for ushering in the Festival of Lights<\/p>\n<p><b>By VIVIENNE PAL<br \/><a href=\"mailto:Vivienne@thestar.com.my\">Vivienne@thestar.com.my<\/a><br \/>Photos by CHAN TAK KONG<\/b> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/metro\/story.asp?file=\/2007\/11\/1\/central\/19282527&amp;sec=central\"> source<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\nDOME-SHAPED arches and <i>ketupat<\/i> have made way for the quintessential oil lamp and multi-coloured <i>kolam<\/i> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c a sure sign that Hari Raya is over and Deepavali is around the corner. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n Walk into Mid Valley Megamall now and you will see that it has undergone a quick makeover in time for the festival of lights. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The centre court showpiece, for starters, is a magnificent structure in red sandstone hues bearing an impressive resemblance to a bygone palace courtyard. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> Inspired by ancient Indian architecture and design, the structure features opulent peacock arches with intricate geometric and floral motifs all encrusted with tiny mirror squares. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n Adding further allure to the structure are decor pieces, coloured glasses, sheer saris in vibrant hues and two elaborate <i>kolam<\/i> in a courtyard which has been planted with natural grass. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> &#8220;The artistic team started sandblasting and carving about a month ago,&#8221; said advertising public relations manager Catherine Lim, &#8220;and all the mirrors were stuck by hand.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n Classical Indian music has been thoughtfully piped in to enhance the atmosphere. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> Shoppers can also make their way to the bazaar kiosks which have been lined up just around the centre court, most of which are offering discounts on their merchandise.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<table align=\"center\" border=\"0\" cellpadding=\"7\" width=\"364\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thestar.com.my\/archives\/2007\/11\/1\/central\/m_30peacock.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/> <\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>\n<div>Magnificent: The structure with peacock arches, intricate geometric and floral motifs all encrusted with tiny mirror squares, at the centre court.<\/div>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p> For a quick look-through for fashion and home accessories and apparel, pay a visit to Khazanah and Le Mombai. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> Pick up knick-knacks from Khazanah that include Indian lampshades, pretty earrings, beaded cushion covers, and ladies&#39; kurtas. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n Le Mombai has a lovely selection of clothes and skirts with handmade detailing, as well as pashmina shawls. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> For bags galore, head to Coco.nut which sells a variety of handmade bags &#8211; clutches, totes, slings \u00e2\u20ac\u201c made of various material and embellished with beads and embroidery.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n The bags come from Pakistan, Vietnam, Indonesia and Thailand. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n For some goodies, there is Top Cookies which offers a variety of sweet delights. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> Although famous for its pineapple tarts, Top Cookies is offering some new varieties of biscuits, namely the strawberry chocolate almond, cashew nut special cookies and white chocolate almonds. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n For a very Malaysian tidbit, pay a visit to the Ipoh Kacang Putih kiosk which sells more than 10 varieties of <i>kacang putih<\/i>, as well as <i>murukku<\/i>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n Shoppers can redeem a free pack of <i>murukku<\/i> from the kiosk if they spend a minimum of RM100 at any specialty store (maximum of two accumulated receipts). &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p> Meanwhile, to add to the ambience, there will be nightly cultural performances beginning until Nov 11.
