{"id":704,"date":"2007-11-14T09:00:27","date_gmt":"2007-11-14T01:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/indian\/2007\/11\/14\/ganesh-is-world-no-2-in-scrabble\/"},"modified":"2007-11-14T09:30:38","modified_gmt":"2007-11-14T01:30:38","slug":"ganesh-is-world-no-2-in-scrabble","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/indian\/2007\/11\/14\/ganesh-is-world-no-2-in-scrabble\/","title":{"rendered":"Ganesh is World No. 2 in scrabble"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ganesh is World No. 2 in scrabble<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nst.com.my\/Current_News\/NST\/Wednesday\/National\/2083631\/Article\/index_html\">source<\/a><\/p>\n<p> <\/p>\n<div>\n<p> NEW DELHI: Besides wining second place at the World Scrabble Championship, Malaysia&#39;s top ranked player Ganesh Asirvatham created a new record by beating the maximum number of opponents simultaneously. <\/p>\n<table align=\"right\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"3\" width=\"200\">\n<\/table>\n<p>  Ganesh, a lecturer from Klang, lost to world number three, New Zealander Nigel Richards, 0-3 in the final of the 9th edition of the championship, held in Mumbai on Monday.<\/p>\n<p> Ganesh created a new world record when he played against 25 players simultaneously and defeated 21 of them, surpassing the previous record of 17 held by Stewart Holden of the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n<p> &quot;It was a big success on both accounts for Ganesh, winning the second spot in the championship and also entering the Guinness Book of World Records. <\/p>\n<p>&quot;He had a lot of crowd support in Mumbai but just failed to win the title,&quot; secretary of the Scrabble Association of India, Sam Joseph, said. <\/p>\n<p>     Ganesh, 28, had won several titles in his career, including the Singapore Open in 2001 and the Indian Open in 2005.<\/p>\n<p> A total of 110 players from 42 countries took part in the championship sponsored by Mattel Toys India Pvt Ltd.
