{"id":8628,"date":"2012-04-09T18:07:43","date_gmt":"2012-04-09T10:07:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/?p=8628"},"modified":"2012-04-09T18:07:43","modified_gmt":"2012-04-09T10:07:43","slug":"rabindranath-tagore-painting-exhibition-at-national-art-gallery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/poobalan.com\/blog\/indian\/2012\/04\/09\/rabindranath-tagore-painting-exhibition-at-national-art-gallery\/","title":{"rendered":"Rabindranath Tagore Painting exhibition at National Art Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"width: 560px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.artgallery.gov.my\/image\/image_gallery?uuid=3045cfb2-d607-45d0-a8cb-c4776c29c131&amp;groupId=77015&amp;t=1332476218254\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"The Last Harvest by Rabindranath Tagore\" src=\"http:\/\/www.artgallery.gov.my\/image\/image_gallery?uuid=3045cfb2-d607-45d0-a8cb-c4776c29c131&amp;groupId=77015&amp;t=1332476218254\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"776\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Last Harvest by Rabindranath Tagore<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Got the email below from Novinthen, few weeks ago (yeah, that long!):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Dear all,<\/div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We are pleased to inform you that the\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">National Visual Arts Gallery of Malaysia<\/span>\u00a0is hosting an\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">exhibition of the original paintings of Rabindranath Tagore<\/span>\u00a0in Kuala Lumpur from\u00a0<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">3<sup>rd<\/sup>\u00a0April to 15<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0July 2012<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>in commemoration of 150<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0birth anniversary of Asia\u2019s first Nobel Laureate.\u00a0Tagore won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913.\u00a0\u00a0He was also a prolific author and poet, composer of songs, philosopher, painter and noted educationist.\u00a0\u00a0He was a leading figure in\u00a0India\u2019s fight for independence from British rule and takes his place along with Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru as a founder of modern\u00a0India.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Tagore travelled extensively during his life time (1861-1941).\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">He\u00a0visited Malaya in\u00a0\u00a0July and August 1927<\/span>, travelling from\u00a0Singapore\u00a0through Melaka,\u00a0Kuala Lumpur\u00a0and\u00a0Ipoh, to\u00a0Penang.\u00a0\u00a0During his travels in Malaya he spoke at some of the iconic institutions including the St. Francis Institution in Melaka, the Town Hall and the Victoria Institution in\u00a0Kuala Lumpur\u00a0and the\u00a0Chung\u00a0Ling\u00a0High School\u00a0in\u00a0Penang.\u00a0\u00a0He laid the foundation stone of the Hu Yew Seah Chinese Society Hall at Jalan Madras in\u00a0Penang\u00a0which can be seen to this day.\u00a0\u00a0Throughout his Asian tours, Tagore referred to the resurgence of Asian civilizations and expressed the conviction that\u00a0Asia\u00a0would rise again to prosperity and peace.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">3.
