200th day under ISA for HINDRAF 5

29th June 2008 will mark the 200th day under ISA detention for the 5 HINDRAF leaders (detained since 13th December 2007). What is the opinion or comment of the Indian community on this? What do you, the man (woman) in the street have to say? Agree? Disagree? Hurt? Angry? Don’t Care? Feel hopeless?

Should they be released? Should they be brought to court for a fair trial? Should we instead ask for those who claim these people are linked to terrorists to be put under ISA?

Having a hard time wondering how long is 200 days? Well, sit back and think what you have done since 1st January 2008. Changed career, met a new love, bought new things, voted in elections, paying higher for petrol, met new friends, watched plenty of movies, attended weddings, graduated, went for holiday, involved in new hobby, learned new skill, moved house, got married, and many, many more things would have happened in the last 6 months. Feels like a long time doesn’t it?

Share your thoughts please.

What im interested in is, whether Hindraf will do another rally? If yes will the crowd will be bigger or smaller?

    Remember Remember, 25th of November!

  2. poobalan says:

i think if there is another rally, the crowd will be same or smaller. reasons:

    1. lack of leaders in hindraf
    2. police will be better prepared
    3. higher cost of living

however, if the permit approval rules are changed, and such rallies are allowed to be organised in selected locations, the participation may increase.

    the crowd may increase if:
    1. mahathir’s comments are used to incite
    2. new leaders emerge
    3. stronger campaign by hindraf starts a few weeks before rally
    4. some event triggers the emotions of the community – death of ISA detainee for example

    • maya says:

and the indians will be labeled as terrorist and linked with LTTE

    • Novinthen says:

Hindraf really needs a group of good leaders..

Anyway next month got Minyak Rally rite? They ( organiser )calling in for 1Million rakyat.

IMHO, the crowd will be a lot smaller if there going to be another rally, irrespective with or without police permit.

      1. Lack of strong leaders
      2. Absence of any “hot” issues
      3. Political fatigue
      4. Reduction of support (due to feeling of being cheated by HINDRAF / PR)
      5. Split in HINDRAF

I had predicted that HINDRAF / MS will die off after the GE slowly and surely. That is already evident in the very poor response to HINDRAF’s demos. That 25th Nov rally is one off event that would not be repeated.

There will be an upsurge of support if the HINDRAF 5 are released but that won’t last too long as well. Because the political situation is very different post March 8. I know Utaya rather well and he is not a leader that can lead a long term struggle. Sooner or later his weaknesses and past record will catch up with him.

I share your thoughts , sir. The HINDRAF supporters became ” sheeps without a shepherd “.

It’s going for a natural death sooner or later. What a pity !

reduction in support ? I’m seeing the other way round….. If less ppl turn up at rally doesnt mean they do not support . Just look at the harsh way police handled those Indian rallies compared to those organized by other races . Clear evidence of bullying the Indians by the ruling discriminators . I agree on fewer crowd if Hindraf were to organize second rally due to above reason . BUT , it will be different if :
        – rally in closed door
        – H5 released and they lead the rally

Btw Killer , the 5 points you stated seem to be suit well with MIC instead ! Hahahha seems like you are pouring frustration on MIC to Hindraf ……

Anyway , i think you guys as “smart” as Pak Lah and gang whom “assuming” till now that the ppl are behind them and the GE12 was a minor error by ppl .

I read a letter from a chinese man saying his family hates pak lah to the extent where they switch channel the moment he appears on tv .

    Most certainly dear vira….

Utaya has a long and messy history behind him. He has made many enemies and generally had been rather unsuccessful since his foray into NGO started in late 90s.

I had the misfortune to cross path with him since year 1999, esp after the Kg Medan incident. I had monitored his activities since then because he had created a big mess in Kg Medan and caused a lot of problems to those people who had been helping the people there.

Since then he had created so many problems under various NGOs that ended with him running away to the UK and asking for a political asylum. But sometimes in 2007 he came back quietly and then hit the goldmine with HINDRAF.

However, he has many enemies politically and has no support base. He is some prone to irrational outbursts and of an unstable character. He was successful with HINDRAF as everything happpened within weeks. But had this prolonged, his weaknesses would have surfaced. Eventually the infighting between the 6 leaders would have destroyed HINDRAF. Even now these 6 leaders have their diffrences if you care to note their statements.

    • Killi Valavan says:

MP: try to stick to the topic instead of attacking the person. if the reply is not clear, just ask for clarification.

you stated ‘big mess’ …..mind explaining ? Seems like you are too desperate to undermine him rather than the facts he have been raising which caught attention from million . Again you proved lousy mic mind set . Talk rubbish but no action . That’s the motto i’ve seen among mic fellows . I remember someone challenged you to call for a rally but you escaped …… you are a mess yourself …..

      • Killi Valavan says:

        MP i apologize….
well im quite sick with ‘sandiwara’ and ‘jalra’ .

Btw , i dun see support for Hindraf diminishing in Penang/Butterworth .
        How about in KL ?
Besides saw a huge crowd in Hindraf gathering in Teluk Intan 2 days back .

      To killer

How do you analyse a person like Uthaya. What you have said about him and the examples u have given are opposite! I see Uthaya a man who has no fear of making or putting his life at risk at any cause!

You MUST be a MIC stooge. U do not have rational mind even! I see in Uthaya who stands for his ideals perhaps a bit too passionate for ur comfort. making anemies is not a bad quality to me. That means he has guts to fight for what is correct. What MIC has achieved in 50 years ‘without making anemies?’ They have been so techtful that nothing happened..

I do not think you are qualified to speak about Uthaya…I am sure many will agree with me. Please think rationally and give fair comments please.

      • Killi Valavan says:

you right Suraj . Can a ‘ettappan’ criticize ‘kattabomman’ ?? How ridiculous….

  5. shankar says:

I was allways wondering where all this people gone, life must go on but neverthelss i will allways be there for our makkals

    Valga tamil makals

  6. Killer says:

Well, at this rate the HINDRAF 5 will be celebrating their 300th Day and then 400th days in Hilton Kamunting….

If they want to be released, then listen to what I say….

Keep off the stupid demos and moronic acts ala Kollywood like birthday celebrations at the Parliament or gift-bearing antics at the Istana.

The BN govt knows one thing very clear. No one will in PR will fight for HINDRAF 5 other than just a lip-service. They know very well that PR just milked Indians dry during the GE and after the election they will be discarded as an eaten sugar cane. They can hold HINDRAF 5 indefinitely without worrying too much.

And you know what ? They are right.

However, if you want your leaders released, then it is not too late. Please discard the Tamil movie bravado and approach the Home Minister in a peaceful manner. Get NGOs and MIC on your side and sit down and talk. This way both side can get to keep their “faces” and work out a solution.

More demos will only make the govt’s resolution stronger.

Let me ask the HINDRAF supporters here something. How come PR can whip up massive gathering and lightning quick demos for some petrol hike but when it came to ISA, they are no relunctant ? Figure it out yourself.

    • sactyr@naga says:

Regarding your last line, go and read this:

      http://makkalsakti.blogspot.com/2008/06/strong-rally-against-inhumane-isa.html

And if you happen not to notice it, look for this statement:

The rally last night was organised by Perak GMI in collaboration with national GMI. It is learnt that this vigil received blessings from the Pakatan Rakyat governments in Perak and Selangor.

Yes you may come back telling me that PR govt didn’t do anything “hands-on”, but at least PR didn’t order out FRU to thrash out the people at the rally?

Killer u r pathetic. U think MIC got any respect at all….run by a leader who has every kind of support from the comunity, corrupt to the core with no answers to questions by people…going out /running away from meetings by back doors to avoid facing the truth …Goodness me. Wake up…

There is dignified ways of doing thing and opposite way…The good decent ,methods always don see fast results are a lot a lot harder my dear.
Please be rational and fair. People praise Wirapaadi Kanttaboman but not Ettapan..remember history. Ettapan got the easy way…

        • Killer says:

          Suraj

When you are faced with several dozen hooligans out to beat you up, would you stay back and try to negotiate with them ?

Those guys in JB are common gangsters who were out to beat SV up and it has nothing to do with Maika or MIC. They just refused to discuss rationally and just wanted to create problems.

This only goes to show the violent tactics employed by those aligned to HINDRAF/Makkal Samadhi.

If they think they have been cheated, why don’t they file a class action suit against MIC and Maika instead of resorting to illegal and unethical actions ?

I think you guys missing the picture by accusing others to be Ettapan. FYI ettapan is someone who sold off the community by colluding with enemies. So in this case HINDRAF is the real ettapan because they colluded with Islamic fundamentalist and Chinese ultras to sell of the community.

Now, when questioned why the community has been cheated, people like you, VJ and Killi evading the issue.

So how long we need to wait ? Another 50 years ?

  7. Killer says:

    Killi Valavan

Which Penang / BW you are talking about ? Your friends and relatives ?

Perhaps you had forgotten the fact that the last HINDRAF demo was a failure. In fact my friend send me photos of the demo in Pacific where only about 50 people turned up. However as usual some of Tamil newspapers and blogs reported very differently using clever camera angles.

I have many friends and relatives living in Penang and many of the hard core supporters have long given up. Either fed up with HINDRAF or just plain not bothered anymore. I spend much of my time in Penang too and also having worked there for many years as well.

The general feeling in Penang / BW is that the interest in HINDRAF has gone down from perhaps 70 – 80% to now may be 40 – 30%. In a year it will be 15 to 10%.

    • sactyr@naga says:

Did you just pluck the statistics from the air? Or did the Malaysian Statistical Dept (if there is one) aided you?

I agree the support for Hindraf is dwindling, but hey, at least its there compared to MIC’s?

      http://sactyr.blogspot.com

      • Killer says:

        Sactyr

MIC is at its weakest but the support is growing again because people are seeing the real face of PR and they realise they have been cheated by HINDRAF.

HINDRAF now is for all intent and purposes just another NGO, no longer the political force it was just 8 mths ago.

    • VJ says:

Killer i’m not surprised your relations not supporting . Obviuos . Dun judge rational Penagites based on just your relations .

Btw , would you like to take challenge to survey the support left over for MIC ?

  8. haha…another drama from Killer..lol.
