The Star reported (excerpts below) that newly sworn senator from PPP (its Youth Chief) Murugiah is actually a Deputy Minister in PM’s Department (same like Devamany).

He is not sure of his portfolio yet.

Four new deputy ministers were sworn in before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin here yesterday. The ceremony took place at Istana Negara at 4.30pm with the handing over of the appointment letters by the King to the four deputy ministers who then took their oath of office, loyalty and secrecy.

The first to do so was Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Abdul Rahim Bakri, followed by Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Lajim Ukin, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Senator Datuk Maznah Mazlan and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator T. Murugiah.

Meanwhile, Murugiah, who is PPP Youth chief, said he was only informed about his appointment last Saturday after the King consented to the appointment.

I reported for duty today and I do not know my portfolio yet,” he said.

Murugiah declined to comment when asked if he was given the post because the PPP had no representative in the Cabinet. – Bernama
