Wow…RM300 million per year from 2008 till 2020? That’s 17 years, meaning RM5.1 billion! Wonder if MIC is dreaming or high! Surely they request will be rejected. Want to buy rice also problem. Petrol increasing beyond USD126/barrel. I’ll be surprised if PM approves even half the amount even once. let alone yearly.
Perhaps MIC want to use this money to regain its trust among the community. Maybe by managing a big amount, it could distribute the funds and gain support from the community.
By the way, I don’t remember reading government telling Samy not to interfere in helping to release Hindraf 5. Certainly no statement from government to that effect. Unless of course if this happened behind the scenes?
By the way, 300 million is a bit low. At least a billion a year will be reasonable. 🙂
MIC wants RM300 million annual allocation for Indians

JOHOR BARU, Sat.:
The MIC is seeking an annual allocation of RM300 million from the government to further develop the Indian community, escpecially those in the lower-income group.
Its president, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, said he will be having a meeting on this with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi in about a week’s time as the allocation is needed for structured development of the community up to 2020.
“This has been brought up to Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Najib Tun Razak, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Amirsham A. Aziz and Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop and a meeting with the Prime Minister regarding it will be held in about a week,” he told reporters after opening the Johor MIC’s 62nd convention, here today.
He also said it will take about a year to re-strengthen the party following its dismal performance in the recently-concluded general election.
The focus will be on the youth as they hold the key to the party’s future progress, he said.
On another matter, Samy Vellu said he will pursue efforts to get five leaders of the Hindraf organisation detained under the Internal Security Act released, despite the government having told him not to interfere in the matter, as it is what the party’s members wanted.
I think I know the scenario of how the money will be distributed!
SV will be the person in the MIC who will decide on who gets what! And how to they get it – they will have to line up outside his office everyday and if they are lucky they will get some crumbs!
The elected parliamentarians (whether they deserve to have been elected at all is another big questionmark) will be totally by passed! SV needs a position of importance!
Umno does once in a while does throw crumbs from the main dining table – we do not need the new “Tuan” in between to decide on who it is to go to!
I do hope the PM has enough sense to know as to what happened in the past and do the get the crumbs to the deserving!
I hope I am wrong!
