HINDRAF unhappy with Pakatan states

Very surprising indeed. in the pro government Star, HINDRAF coordinators Kannan and Thanenthiran were quoted as HINDRAF not regretting asking supporters to vote for opposition. They said many changes were seen after the elections, especially in Pakatan led states.

But today, in the pro-opposition Malaysiakini, a different tune is being sang. The report says that HINDRAF, together with two previously unheard of groups – Penang Makkal Sakti Welfare Association (Pemaswa) and Hindu Action Network (Han) are fed up with the “indifferent attitude of Pakatan Rakyat governments”.

These three groups are now asking for these Pakatan states to set up state Indian councils to be led by the menteri besar or chief minister. The suggested councils will plan and implement beneficial programmes
for the Indian community, with short, medium and long term goals.

Hindraf National Coordinator, Thanenthiran declares that the Pakatan government had failed to fulfill the promises. He said during the elections, Pakatan used the Hindraf tagline Makkal
Sakti but since winning they have not unveiled any policy to benefit
the community. “Pakatan Rakyat ruling parties, be it DAP in Penang, PAS in Kedah and
Perak and PKR in Selangor, seemed to have made empty electoral promises
to the Indians,” he added. He stressed Hindraf would continue to fight along the movement’s
18-point memorandum submitted to the federal government last year.

Pemaswa’s president, G Asohan also chips by saying that Indian leaders in the Pakatan government have “betrayed the Indian community’s trust in them” to deliver the goods. “Until today, the state governments, particularly Indian leaders, are resting on their laurels,” he said. He claimed that more from MIC, PPP and IPF have benefited from the DAP government in Penang than genuine Hindraf supporters.

HAN’s coordinator G Mugunthan criticised Penang’s elected Indian assemblypersons of protecting their
chronic self-interests when they rejected a previous DAP proposal for a
state council. Though DAP members were keen for a one-stop council, the DAP Indian
assemblypersons rejected it as “it will put undue pressure on them to
deliver.” “Now they are freely doing anything according to their
whims and fancies,” he said, adding that the appointment of an Indian
as Penang deputy chief minister has been more “a curse than a blessing”
to the community. “It has only helped some chronic characters from BN.”

The three groups plan to organise a joint dialogue session with all relevant Pakatan Rakyat heads of state governments over the issue.

As for me, in the short period since last August, HINDRAF had done the impossible. and brought immense self-confidence into the community. It may be a relatively short-lived shot in the arm for the community which was fed up with shoddy treatment from all corners. Post-elections, its a new voyage into unchartered areas. Here, HINDRAF, just like the Indian community, had to make sure its stand is clear. How the community’s newly acquired self-confidence is used may be out of HINDRAF’s control. As Waytha admitted in Singapore months ago (the famous misused interview), it is very likely that HINDRAF will cease to exist in the near future. If it has outlived its purpose – to create an awakening – then its time to retire HINDRAF. The spirit of Makkal Sakthi can take form in newer groups or agendas. It might even cleanse MIC, for all we know. But the contribution of HINDRAF is undeniable.

HINDRAF’s main agenda is to push its 18 point memorandum, and to free its detained leaders. They should stick to that and be clear. They should not meddle into many things (like PI Bala’s disappearance) and cloud the situation. They are apolitical. A pressure group. Their job is to push the community’s agenda (just, fair and logical ones) to the authorities. If group A does not help, then move to group B. Remember that political parties need Hindraf, not the other way around. If such parties conveniently forget HINDRAF now, they will be rudely reminded in the next election. Its not end of the world if Pakatan states neglect the community. In the end, these people will come begging for votes. The community have realised that the era of 50 years of empty promises are gone already. Now, 5 years only given, maybe lesser.

On another note, if the Pakatan led governments implement race-independent measures and policies that directly and indirectly benefit the community, HINDRAF should welcome those measures and policies. We have seen settlers getting land title and pig farms projects continuing, but partially-aided Tamils schools have not got their land. Perhaps the process is longer, but Pakatan leaders in Selangor, Penang and Perak must keep the community updated. What is the progress in getting the land? what are the problems they face? Is it due to federal laws?

The Indian community does not owe any party or individuals a living. Those who think that we should bow down and kowtow to others are seriously wrong. We don’t agree that some other group are supremacist, while we are slaves. We stand equal, shoulder to shoulder with other human beings, and are not fourth class citizens. The community may be stuck between two useless groups – the BN and the Pakatan, but it must never lose its self respect.

    Well Poobalan

Isn’t this is exactly what I was saying ? What the Hindraf guys are saying is almost carbon copy of what I had posted here. Don’t you agree ?

The problem is many of the PKR/DAP Indian MPs/ADUNs never HINDRAF supporters but just used Indians. In fact if you notice most of them are from well to do background like lawyers and doctors, etc from rich family (like Sactyr). They do not understand the issues faced by estate and poor people. Now that they have won, they forgotten Indians…this is betrayal…the real ettapan. The same is true of Prof Rama. Although he is a bit better but he is also proving to be an ineffective politician who is only good in talking. People already started to complain about not able to reach him. And he is also having a tough time managing the Chinese DAP members so simply do not respect him as the DCM2 and working to undermine him. I wouldnt be surprised if he resigns. BTW did you guys follow the Penang state assembly proceedings ? If not please look carefully how Rayer is “bodek-ing” LGE. The reason ? Rumor is that he is eyeing DCM2 post…well I don’t know if this is true, this is just a rumour going around in Penang now…

Watch out guys, this is just the beginning…

VJ/Satyr/Killi / Arya : Just watch how many of my predictions comes true…

      Yo ,
come on lar you are not a primary student , are you ? This is politics and not ‘office of Mahatma Gandhi’ .
Btw , why you bother if rayer bodek or not ? You never seen even DPM bodek PM ?

    Dear Killer,

Don’t simple jump into conclusion. It is better for you to wait in see.

Dear friend , DAP only took Penang goverment few months ago and they have a lot of things to do and see. They cannot do everything on the spot. We need to give them some time also. Few months and few years have many different.
What BN have done for us in few years ?????? Did they give us some special care or etc.. .
Why not we give pakatan team some time and see what they can do for us.

MP:Edited. Killer,They do not understand the issues faced by estate and poor people. Now that they have won, they forgotten Indian’s this is betrayal; the real ettapan. – If it was so well and nicely done by the BN/Govt, we wouldn’t have heard of Hindraf, was DSSV a rubber tapper before? why must you bother/care if they’re from a well to do family or background ? ever wondered why they’re not in MIC ? or you prefer thugs running the show. You can list down all your predictions in a piece of paper or two, fold it into four and shuv up (edited).

The HINDRAF leaders were all well educated too.

As I’ve said before, we don’t need to be poor or starving to understand that people are experiencing it. (And it doesn’t have to be a reason to stop us from helping either!!)

Give the pakatan guys a break. They have to fix 50 years of damage la…

I’ll still give them the benefit of the doubt as compared to Samy and gang.

  6. novinthen says:

    Apolitical…. Hmmm Just one question.

is asking voters to vote opposition ,apolitical?

  7. Killer says:

    Folks

Well educated and hailing from well to do family is a different matter altogether. You see people like Sactyr comes from a rich family who can afford to send to overseas for education while the rest of us have to study hard and complete with the Chinese and Malays for a place in local uni. For rich kids like Sactyr life is easy since they don’t have to suffer. They do not know the situation on the ground since they live in a comfortable cocoon provided by their rich dads.

Many of the PR MPs and ADUNs are like Sactyr, rich kids who made into doctors and lawyers without having to work for it since their parents send them overseas and when they come back they are given $$ to start their biz. I know some kids who had failed Form 5 becoming doctors or those with Arts stream end up as doctors since their parents use their $$ to buy their kids degrees from overseas.

    • Killi Valavan says:

i do not know Sactyr’s background but why does that bothers you ? You can’t stand seeing any successful Indians ke ??
If you have guts (likely NO) go and bother those corrupts whom driving Merc E220 and private jets on not father’s money but on people’s money !

And on your input about kids who had failed Form 5 but became doctors …… yes i agree with that …… just like you i too heard such kids whose parents are from the main federal ruling party ….. at least lar bro …. you and me have some common input !

    • Aryaputra says:

      Killer,

Maybe you have to look at the parent’s point of view. 😀 – P.O.V, reminds me of some DVD titles.

Or perhaps you “bengang” you never get “comfortable cocoon provided by their rich dads.

      • Killer says:

        Arya

On the other hand I will be insulted if I had to use my parent’s $$ or influence rather than my own abilities to get what I wanted.

Let me tell you my background. My father was a govt servant and wasn’t rich at all but that motivated me to work harder to compete with others and even beat them. Had my father was a rich doctor, I would have taken the easy way out and got him to pay for my studies in an overseas university like Sactyr and do double or even triple degrees or MBAs or Phd….However fortunately because of my exam performance I managed to get a place in local uni and 3 scholarships to choose from.

So I am proud of my middle-class roots and even thankful for it indeed.

  8. Killer says:

    Shri

Let me assure you that I know all the “hanky panky” that is happening in Penang state under LGE. He is hardly the clean guy he wants us to believe. All the talk about CAT is BULL.

I can agree to give them time if they are on the right track in the first few months. But within weeks they have started to go off track. People already started to question them. Read papers or blogs. Many feel betrayed by DAP.

    • Killi Valavan says:

it doesnt matter what you know or what you think . Penang’s political fate is in Penangites hands . We made the right choice on March8 and we’ll do so again and again . But you are most welcomed to campaign against them . But before that do learn up Hokkien because most of penang chinese are behind DAP . You need hell of resources and intelligence to bring back the former corrupts .

      • Killer says:

        Killi

You just proved that you are more loyal to your political masters than to your own race. Are you sure you are an Indian and not a Chinese pretending to be an Indian ? You must be blind and deaf to not know the marginalisation that DAP has inflicted on Indians in Penang. Even HINDRAF is agreeing with me but you are adamant to continue to support the DAP.

As for the corrupts, up to today, the DAP govt yet to bring any evidence of wrong doing by the former state exco despite spending months to dig up. All they have on “land scandal” is just a court case that was already under hearing when DAP came to power.

As for DAP Chinese still supporting DAP, well, we will see in the next GE of this claim. Based on my reading the support among Chinese still high but has gone down significantly since GE (perhaps from 85% to 65%-70%). As time goes on this will drop further as the investors close their factories. I am sure I will reminding you on this in the coming months in this forum.

And BTW do you know that the ratio between Chinese and Malays is just 43% and 40% now. In 5 years this situation will reverse with Malays will be the majority. Most likely that LGE will be the last Chinese CM irrespective of who wins in 13 GE. But by then PR will be no more, UMNO will win and we will have a Malay CM.

The Chinese of Penang has shot themselves in their foot….

  9. Killi Valavan says:

frenz , let me paste an input from hindraf’s legal advisor , N.Surendran :
“We are not supporting Pakatan Rakyat to gain political positions but because they have promised a free society and we have faith in their promise ” .

We’ve right leaders to lead so dun get confused and misdirected by ‘leg massagers’ .

    • Killer says:

      N. Surendran ? Please lah, don’t make me laugh ok…..This guy is another mangosteen, dark outside but white within…This guy is PKR first and Indian second just like the rest of the PR MPs and ADUNs. Just look at the circus he has created in almost every issue of political value. As long the issue has some political connotation and he will be there, pushing his face to the cameras and video cameras. I am just sick of seeing him in the press and TV. He is just using HINDRAF to further his political objectives, and if you can’t see it then you must be IQ of a mentally challenged midget.
