KUALA LUMPUR: Indian job seekers should check out the career exhibition by the Public Services Commission (PSC) at MidValley Exhibition Centre here this weekend.

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said PSC chairman Tan Sri Jamaluddin Ahmad Damanhuri had informed him that the exhibition would be open between 10am and 6pm tomorrow and on Sunday.

He said the exhibition would provide information on how to apply for jobs in the public sector and on career development.

“The PSC is committed to increasing the number of non-bumiputras in the civil service and I hope Indians, especially young graduates, will attend,” he said.

The Works Minister has been calling on the Government to recruit and promote more Indians in the civil service.

Currently, only 5% of those employed in the public sector are Indians, which, Samy Vellu said, did not reflect the proportion of the Indian population in the country.

It was reported that of the 486,802 applications for civil service jobs in 2006, Chinese and Indians accounted for only 1.78% and 2.5%, respectively.
