Devamany has been appointed the new MIC treasurer-general with immediate effect, Samy Vellu announced on Sunday evening. Devamany replaces Mahalingam who was removed from the post by Samy Vellu few days ago.
Devamany, 51, in an immediate reaction, told Bernama he was honoured by the appointment and thanked Samy Vellu for appointing him to the post.
I know it is a heavy responsibility and I vow to do my best. I will continue serving the party and the Malaysian Indian community with more vigour. My service to the community will continue as usual although the post would take up time. But this is what we are here for and I promise to deliver above expectations, he said.
