Well, if areas in Gombak also can be like this, what more of places like Sg Petani or interiors of Sabah, Sarawak, Pahang etc!

60 years means the since before election until now! If we can get worked up over Astro signal loss or short power breakouts, imagine families that don’t have televisions, fans, air-conds, etc. throughout their lives…Permanent power failure for 60 YEARS? There should be some efforts to relocate them (if can) or provide proper utilities. If not, don’t ask why people support uprising event organised by Hindraf, for example.

SOME 200 residents of Sungei Kita 2nd Division have lived without electricity and water for the past 60 years, said Malaysia Nanban.

They are hoping that the present change of government will bring some changes to their living conditions.

Their village, about 15km from Sungei Petani, originally had about 66 Indian families but due to the lack of facilities, many moved out leaving 22 families staying there now.

M. Thanapackiam, 53, a resident for the past 50 years, said numerous complaints had been made and brought to the attention of four previous Mentris Besar.

She said the residents were using well water for their daily consumption and this had created health problems for the children.

She said they used candles and oil lamps at night.

She hoped the new Pakatan Rakyat government would look into their problems and ensure that they were supplied with piped water and electricity as soon as possible.
