We read yesterday about Kamine Devi who scored 10A1s not being offered anything by PSD (JPA). She should also consider registering an appeal via MIC since they have a representative in cabinet. The community has no choice but to rely on MIC in this case because of the race based politics.
As Samy suggests, it should be an automatic offer for students who fulfill certain criteria – certain number of As and/or family income. The should be a system integration between MES and JPA so that details of students can be linked. This will avoid cases of not being able to apply online, loss of data, incomplete/invalid application, incorrect data entry etc., and most importantly ensure no deserving students are left out. We are sick and tired of reading in the papers, year after year, students begging for scholarship. Simple thing also cannot solve.
Imagine only 34 get scholarship, out of possibly 2000++ places. Not even 5%, but about 2% only! And already have 194 appeals.
Let’s wait for MCA to reveal the numbers.
MIC to push for more PSD scholarships

KUALA LUMPUR, Thu.:
The MIC today expressed dissatisfaction over the low percentage of Public Service Department (PSD) overseas scholarships allocated for Indian students and hopes the government will increase the number, party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said.
He said this year only 34 Indian students had been successful in their application.
The party received 194 appeals, some from those who had secured 12 A1s in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations, Samy Vellu said in a statement.
The party has prepared a list of the 194 appeal cases comprising among others, two students with 12 A1s, three students with 11 A1s and 41 students with 10 A1s.
“I will request the MIC representative in the Cabinet (Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr. S. Subramanianm) to bring up the appeal cases in the next Cabinet meeting (on Friday),” he said.
Samy Vellu said he had also discussed the matter with the Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Sidek Hassan and would follow up with him soon on the matter.
“I hope the government will consider the appeals by the students, especially those with excellent grades,” he said, adding that some of the parents of the students were from poor background.
He suggested that the PSD set a minimum requirement similar to that for the matriculation courses in selected universities and Form Six in fully-aided schools where PSD scholarships would be offered to all students who scored 9 As in their SPM.
i got the scholarship.I am an Indian.Thankyou government.
Congratulations Nicholas! I am sure you must be one of those who really need it. “Thanks” – indeed to the Government.
I am also hoping that the government gives a helping hand for the thousands of Indians who need a helping hand.
From what I know of anecdotal evidence Indian children who get the PSD scholarship to study abroad do indeed need very strong cables ( strings are not enough). The weak and vulnerable do not have any such strings let alone cables! Hopefully things have changed this year. If it has changed I would say it is because of the change in the political landscape – thanks to Hindraf!
As I have mentioned (elsewhere ) before – we should have be having enough in the Indian Community’s kitty to take care of our own bright young people and also the weak and vulnerable in society. However opportunities have been squandered by our ” leaders ” who took charge of the community’s money and we have to still go with a begging cap in hand! They had a lot of money to “play” around with!
Once again – Nicholas – “Well done !” Remember – you have a debt to the community when you are in a good position which I am sure you will reach one day. Help one young person in need ( with your own money /effort) and you will be a very happy man for the rest of your life. Believe me it is very addictive. Our MIC politicians were addicted to fame through throwing crumbs at the rakyat under their care!
The politicians we have use public money and used to give it out to people who they liked. That should not be happening! Intelligent kids like Nicholas should be expecting help as their birthright!
i got the scholarship.I am an Indian.Thank you government.ask psd to publish the list of 34 students.i heard only a few indians get medic as i get.
frenz ,
yeah it’s the Tamil culture to say thanks . Good . At the same time dont forget that there are other eligible Indian students whom failed to get scholarship . If i earn RM2k per month and i’m exited , but that doesnt mean my fellow Indians in estate earns it as well .
We must be thankful to the country and God . Also not forgetting the heroes that fought before and are currently figthing
for equality ! Their struggle will benefit our future generation . Pls dont forget that .
Congratulaion and good luck on your studies . Serve the Nation and dont forget to serve your own
community .

Samy Vellu (edited) bodoh takde kuasa tak boleh tolong orang India! Semua biasiswa Orang Melayu sahaja dapat!
Orang Cina pun ramai dapat biasiswa! Tapi India kurang! biasalah tu!
Don’t worry! MIC cannot do a damn thing about this issue because Samy Vellu got no powerlah! Sokong Hindraf lagi baiklah!
