JAG condemns Kedah restriction on female artistes

I’m always worried when read about PAS-led states. They are the weakest link in the Pakatan Rakyat since they are theological-based while the other two are secular. At least in BN, its all racial or secular based.

Now, the Kedah government announces that women artistes can only perform in front of female audience but there are restrictions for open space performance. Now, if this was limited to Islamic functions or those involving Muslims, I won’t be bothered as its within their religious aspect. But this rule cannot be extended to other races who have their own beliefs. Why should one follow rules based on other religion, something which they don’t believe? Surely comical to say the least.

JAG (Joint Action Group for Gender Equality) are rightly angry with this and claim that is a rule that violates the Constitution since its gender discrimination.

It violates women’s right to work and express themselves and denies the significant contributions of women in arts and entertainment and attempts to silence women’s voices.

“The involvement of women in the entertainment profession is not alien to Malaysian culture.

Not to mention it attempts to stop one from earning a living, denies opportunity to be in a profession that one likes, and also attempts to stiffle development of the arts and entertainment industry.

Imagine THR Raaga concert with only the guys, or Jaclyn Victor banned from shows in Kedah.

Kedah government better clarify their rules and perhaps discuss with Pakatan Rakyat top guns first before going around making rules that infringe on others’ rights.

I think PAS will be the downfall of the Pakatan Rakyat. Not BN, not Anwar Ibrahim, not the Indian community, and certainly not Mahathir.

I recall that some Indians had voted for PAS in the GE and one idiot actually stood under PAS flag. I saw a photo with Indians with t-shirts ” Saya India, Saya hindu and Saya sokong kempimpinan Ulama”….what a joke….those Indians and Chinese who voted for PAS in Kedah should really reflect their actions….

I wonder why Anwar and Lim Kit Siang are so quiet ? They are so quick to condemn when UMNO ppl make comments but when it comes to PAS and PR guys, they have no comments.

I am still awaiting for PR to take the same severe action against Zulkifli Nordin for his racist comments.

    Sactyr / VJ / Killi / Maurya2 : Any smart comments ?

  2. Sure Killer, Zulkifli Nordin was racist as hell as was Ahmad Ismail. To me they are both the same, and racist at that. I am a man of principles Killer, I hate racism and inequality as much as it is under BN or PR.

So this case against banning women artists in PAS-led Kedah, thats bad too. And like MP says, PAS will be the thorn in the flesh for a long long time now.

I have stopped responding to dimwits who are no better than the idols they worship. Let them live in a world of illusion and denial.

So you have no opinion on this subject ? So PAS can do whatever they like even though it encroaches non Muslim rights ? If always have a lot of things (but of little substance) to say but how come this silence ? Don’t want to offend your political masters ?

How come after voting for PR in the GE, the rights of non muslims have been further reduced ?

  4. farmer says:

There are nearly 4 million muslims in selangor and they got only around 350 mosque…there are only around 600,000 indians in selangor and they got more than 1000 temples in selangor

The largest modern pig farming is going to be built in selangor, perak gov gives 400 hectar land for private chinese schools

So why should non malays complain about pakatan rakyat??

Kedah, perlis, kelantan and terangganu is malay belt states where there is large malay muslims…the gov there could introduce some guidelines taking local population sentiment as the consideration…but definetely they wont enforce or intefere into non muslims affairs they will respect our right and the same time we must respect their religion rules and belief.

For the mix states like perak and selangor they have different approach…chinese majority state like penang will also consider their own local population sentiment.

We must look state by state since currently all the states under pakatan rakyat rule enjoying more autonomy and decision making freedom.

Its not like BN style where samy vellu while sitting in MIC HQ in jalan ipoh, KL will tell what MIC adun in pahang and negeri sembilan should do.

Stop diverting the issue and answer why Kedah under PR is regressing ? Why are non Muslim rights are being encroached ? Under PR, they promised a more liberal rule but as Kedah has shown, the rules are becoming more secular. I have been to Langkawi recently and the non Muslims are worried about numerous restrictions (official and unofficial) restrictions on them.

like umno , pas is another religiuos based party . Fanatic parties could make impact but wont last long in the waves of globlization .
The malays whom working in MNCs and those in touch with global trend are actually against umno itself . They even render support to DAP .
Their number could small….but will increase in years/decades to come .
Pas survived in march8 tsunamy just because of it’s alliance with Pakatan not bcos Pas is Pas .
