Hi all,
Recently, the newspaper carried an article quoting a minister as saying that families with household income of RM6500 is considered affluent (meaning official government criteria – not play play one).
Let's assume that household here refers to a family of 4 or 5 person (parents + 2/3 children). 20 foreigners living under one roof, 10 college students sharing an apartment, 3 expats sharing a condo, etc, we would not consider.
Affluent, according to dictionary means:
– a person who is financially well off
– having an abundant supply of money or possessions of value
– well-off financially, rich
– generously supplied with money, property, or possessions; prosperous or rich
– A person who is well-off financially
– Possessing a large amount of money, land, or other material possessions
– Having more than enough money
Well, I think you get the point.
My questions:
1. Are you affluent based on the above household criteria?
2. Do you think that RM6500 is a fair indication of being affluent?
3. How much does a family of 4/5 people need per month to live comfortably in Malaysia (two cars, a house, school going kids, city life)?
