If the temple is demolished before Deepavali, and the new site is not ready yet, where will the temple be located? The earlier govt statement also did not mention this. The villagers were also not given any notice that demolition is on the next day (2 days before Deepavali).
See the big picture in temple demolition, says daily
NEWSPAPER Makkal Osai said problems arising from the demolition of a temple in Selangor before Deepavali last year could have been avoided if everyone had understood the issues.
The demolition would result in 800 squatter families of Rimba Jaya being relocated to new flats that would be built by landowner Ken Rimba Jaya Sdn Bhd by the end of the year. In addition, Ken Rimba Jaya had also prepared a new site for a temple and surau. The existing temple and surau committees will also be compensated.
Selangor Unity and Plantation Workers committee chairman Kamala Ganapathy said following the temple demolition, the landowner had prepared a 10,000 sq ft site to enable the temple to be moved behind the Keretapi Tanah Melayu workers quarters at Rimba Jaya.
Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said that many people had misunderstood the Rimba Jaya temple issue.
He said the state was unable to give land as the temple was on private property.
He said the state had acted in the interest of the squatters. The builder was required to provide a housing area for the squatters, places of worship and two kindergartens, including one for the Indians, before it developed the land.
