Saravanan: MIC polls not on my mind

source

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC Federal Territory chief Datuk M. Saravanan denied that he would be contesting the deputy president’s post in party elections next year.
“I am not looking at the party elections now. It never crossed my mind to contest for the MIC deputy president’s post,” he told the New Straits Times yesterday.

“Nobody is talking about party elections as we are in the process of rebuilding the party and gaining the confidence of the people.”

Saravanan, who is also deputy federal territories minister, was responding to a Tamil daily report quoting him as saying that he would contest the MIC deputy president’s post if party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu gave his blessings.

The post of deputy president, now held by Datuk G. Palanivel, is being closely watched especially with the return of former deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam to the mainstream of MIC politics. In the 2006 party polls, Subramaniam, then the incumbent, was defeated by Palanivel. Subramaniam and Palanivel could not be reached for comment.
