Banning of Tamil Dramas in RTM 2!!!! For God’s sake! Is this a (most) critical problem affecting the community? Why not ask about Indian tamil programmes being shown after midnight or at odd hours? Or more Hindi programmes slowly taking over “indian programme slots”?
But seriously, is this a worth to talk about at all? Or am I wasting my blog storage?
Malaysia Nanban reported that the Information Ministry had decided to ban the screening of Tamil dramas from India over TV2.
MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said that the decision to ban such dramas was surprising as it was the only country that produced Tamil dramas for Malaysian viewers.
He said that the MIC secretary general and Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr. S. Subramaniam raised the matter at yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
Enna brother , if they talk abt this in parliment u will tell its waste of time..
if they never talk u MAYBE will accuse them of being not protective of our tamil language..
If Opposition talk this in parliment, MAYBE most of us will tell,”WOW even small details like this they fighthing for”…. Never know 🙂
Why never post Gobala’s OKKARU antics in parliment ? its more funnier then ever!
Please compare ur earlier postings and recent postings.
In my humble view point u r just becoming like most of the 20 year olds with blog-power, hantaming anything which MIC or the government does.
I have no personal relation with u , we blog in different platforms. there is no reason for me to bang u. just wanna tell my opinion. just have a break and sit n think. go back to ur earlier postings, which were MORE like CONSTRUCTIVE CRITISICM,compare it to latest postings which are mostly Hantam anything related to ruling party.
P.S. Not only Tamil, even Hindi Serials are shown at late nite ( or is it early morning coz they are showed around 4am! , let me paste ur rtm2 schedule today,04:05 am DRAMA BERSIRI HINDI : PIYA KA GHAR )
…
P.S2 : Hindi programmes slowly taking over “indian programme slots”? <– anna HINDI , Indian ileya? did u meant tamil ?
Nandri 🙂
Hi bro Nov,
i appreciate your comments and concern. Yeah, sometimes we go off-tangent without realising it. That’s why no man is an island.
I posted this piece because i thought it was reflective of the party concerned. there are many other problems concerning the community, but this topic is being highlighted. Being a cabinet member is not the same as being in the parliament. Now, if the minister proposed that the same ruling be applied in Astro channels, i’ll be happy. Or if they insisted that RTM/Info ministry allocate more budget for local dramas, it would have a super move. i would have applauded it.
Cabinet topics are usually serious stuff. I in fact support the banning of serials from TN since it will allow local dramas to be created to fill the void.
Now, remember the saga about temple priests and artisan being banned from working in malaysia, that was solved through pressure by MIC and MHS among others.
Gopala’s antics resulted in him being told-off by PR whip and he also apologised for his lack of knowledge, though I suspect he did it purposely. i supposed to write on it, but its still in draft mode. i have more than 35 drafts…and no time ! 🙂
Even if the opposition raised this kind of topics in the parliament, i’ll fire them as well. your “MAYBE” can be used to say that “even for this things they want to argue in parliament ka? nothing better to do?” this holds water for both current ruling goverment and opposition.
alamak, do i look so old until don’t fit into the 20s club? 🙂 Seriously, i “hantaming” things which i don’t feel right. of course that is subject to each individual. what i think is wrong, you may think is right. secondly, there are so many things happening, so i have to pick those that are of interest to me. I can’t be writing about everything and anything…then it because like a newspaper. i don’t have the time nor the money to do so. So my focus is clearly stated – those related indian community. of course issues like Bandar Mahkota Cheras is something that it out of topic, but something that raised my anger.
even in BMC issue, the complaint is on police, FRU, state government, MCA, and the relevant ministries. I think I’m still being objective, no?
bro, one should not “bang” another person for personal reasons. anyhow, i understand that you want to clarify your position so that other readers don’t get any wrong impression. Yeah, so let me state here that bro Novinthen and i are not related in anyway whatsoever except that we both blog, and we have the same skin color. anyway Nov, i shall take your advice and do a bit of reflection. it does no harm to review one’s own actions.
Back to the “Indian” program time slot. My mistake – it should be “indian” instead of “tamil”. i have corrected it.
Yes, hindi is part of indian. but let’s see how much of percentage of hindi programmes are there compared to tamil programmes. does it look balanced? How about telugu/malayalee programmes? During festive seasons like deepavali even, Hindi movies are shown by some of the channels. The ones who enjoy most are the other community, so the TV channels make use of Indian slots to provide more entertainment for other races.
well, I hope that my clarifications are acceptable to you. Please feel free to reply.
Vannakam.
Thanks for going through my comment with sincere heart 🙂 I was hesitant to pen down my thoughts on ur blog , i thot u might react how to normal 20s blogger reacts. Now u have proven there is still the “old” poobalan inside you. Oh , u r old la . hehe
Lets us all have healthy, constructive critisism instead of tembak ajer 🙂
Well, even if we write constructive critisism, are the MPs gonna read it or their webmasters? Hmmm. Any idea how we can channel our ideas to main stream people? I have been thinking alot on that… To pool ideas .. something like dat…
ahaha.
personally i think it is an worthy issue to fight for, having local entertainment slots in national TV would portray the government’s policy of supporting ethnic languages and multi-culturalism that Msia goes to the world to promote on.
😉 cheers.
novin : ” most of the 20 year olds with blog-power ” oi oii oii.. isk2
haha.. YB Mahendran avarageley 😀 …
Siapa makan cili dia rasa orepe.. hehe
Guys
I had been saying for many years (I wrote about it even during my undergrad days) that one of the problems facing Indians in Malaysia is not so much the outside forces but they themselves.
Taking on the streets and beating their chests and talking alone will not solve the problems. However, irresponsible idiots like HINDRAF keep telling Indians that the others are the cause of their problems instead of inner reflections.
Indians addiction to serials and movies are one of their weakness that translate to their social and economic problems.
Many Indian commentators (I am sorry Poobalan, you are in this category too) have no ideas on the real issues facing the society but conveniently blame MIC for it. As someone who deals with society’s problems and especially youth, I can see the destructive influence of the Tamil cinema and serials.
For some this issue (serials) could be a minor problem, but I think it is an important step for the community. It wont be popular but often good medicine never sweet and delicious.
Hi Killer,
you need not apologise since you are entitled to your opinion 🙂 . Of course what you say is not necessarily the Gospel truth. MIC may not be the sole reason for the plight of the community, but they sure did play a very big role in it (i guess many commentators including myself believe so).
Many articles and opinions have been provided on the negative influence of media (especially in a subtle manner and on unsuspecting or compromised individuals – those under stress, lack proper education/exposure, in poverty, under influence of substances, lacking proper guidance, etc.). I agree that cinema and serials nowadays seems to provide many negative values (again, its not THE factor, but one of many significant ones). Which is why i agree with the ban by RTM. Unfortunately, MIC thinks OTHERWISE. They are asking why the serials are being banned in RTM2.
So, in this case, is MIC fighting for the community or against it? Or maybe the person was “misquoted”?
no problem bro. hot heads leave nothing but pain 🙂
old meh? hahahaa…still young la! Old is 72! 🙂
MPs are more vigilant know (but for how long?) they have people monitoring the internet. If they are really concerned and service-oriented, they should not wait for rakyat to meet them. Make the avenue to meet the rakyat – visiting hours, postal address, fax, walkabout in pasars, open days, emails, websites, SMS. The MPs risk a lot by not paying attention or being lax.
Bro, there are many, many smart people around (perhaps more smarter that you and me combined!), who have given up on providing ideas. If the listener wants to listen, nothing will stop him/her. Hendak seribu daya, tak hendah seribu dalih. Our ideas are not Noble prize candidates, its just common sense and practical solutions, but you can see how things move very slow – bureaucracy, political interference, lack of apathy, and of course houlier-than-thou attitude are among the reasons. Simple example – how is warkahuntukPM going on now? Still haven’t get any feedback regarding my email.
Killer and other political ‘taiko’s
there are 4 ways a problem/issue to be resolved or people tend to seek intervention from :
– self (own intelligence / hardwork)
– others (frenz ,family…etc)
– politics
– divine
in the case of PSD scholarship , the students had done their part to study hard and now seeking administrators help for study loan which is seeking political help . Many of their requests , though they are poor , being turned down due to racial reasons . Well , the minister himself said it was 10% and 45% only this year . (mic/mca were there for how many decades???) . The angry smart student are smart enough and you expect them to score 40As before being eligible for loan ? So what ‘inner reflection’ crap you are talking about ??
This is simply one of many reason for the political tsunami .
Well , I know none of the mic politician will agree with me which is why we (makkal) hated them for a long time . Talking blunder on stage not going to resolve any issue . I mean ‘shouting’ on stage ……. SV is 8 ‘kattai’ ….
