The police today warned supporters of HINDRAF not to gather at Brickfields police station tomorrow to make a police report on mistreatment of Uthaya’s medical condition. The organisers are expecting more than 1000 people to come to the police station to lodge police reports.
The police will consider it as illegal assembly if many of them gather in front of the police station. Well, as long as they don’t wear any Hindraf symbol, the police can’t do much. Anyone can make a police report. But police says only 3 representatives will be allowed to enter the station to make the report.
City police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohammad Sabtu Osman said that due to the massive number of people lodging similar reports on the same issue, police would allow only up to three representatives of the group to lodge the report.
“There is no need to lodge police reports in such a huge number as the case will be investigated as one case,” he said.
He stressed that action would be taken on anyone who participated in the gathering under Section 27 of the Police Act as it would be considered an illegal assembly.
“It is as if they are mocking the police by lodging so many reports at the same time,” he said Friday during a press conference at Kuala Lumpur police headquarters.
It seems the police are already investigating the case based on the report made by his fiancee.
DCP Mohammad Sabtu added that the police were already investigating the police report lodged by Uthayakumar’s wife, S. Indradevi.
On Feb 15, Indradevi lodged a police report against the Taiping Hospital, Kamunting detention centre officials and the Government claiming that they had neglected her husband’s worsening diabetic condition.
Meanwhile, a lawyer says its wrong to stop people from making police reports:
However, lawyer N. Surendran, who was with Indra when she lodged the report, said that it was wrong for the police to only allow representatives to lodge police reports.
“Whether it is 500 people or 10 people, every citizen has a right to enter a police station and lodge a report,” he said.
I wonder why they didn’t take a leaf out of UMNO and make reports nationwide. That will be more vocal compared to assembling at one station.
Police station is not pasar malam for people to go as they wish. It is a security area and it has been gazzetted. Even a stupid lawyer as Surendran should know that. And Surendran knows that one don’t require 1000 reports for one offense or 1000 people needed to make one report.
UMNO case was different as it was lodged at different places by different places. Though the qty would not make any different.
BTW, did you notice conflicting accounts on Utaya’s maritial status. Some says fiancee, some say husband…??? Ever wondered why ?
Also this is just another drama to drum up the sagging fortune of HINDRAF since they have nothing to do.
Also I thought any issues with ISA detainees supposed to be lodged with the KEMTA authorities or the Home Ministry.
I think HINDRAF think Indians are stupid to be taken by such claims. Do you really think the govt will allow Utahya to die in ISA ? This clown has been making so many such claims that if they were true, he would have long dead. He had been doing so from Day 1 about medicine and food.
I think the govt shld get an injunction against him to stop making such accusations and charge him and his goondas for making false reports.
I think the multiple reports are done for symbolic reasons – to show the widespread anger/unhapiness/support. The quantity of reports is meaningless technically, but is a reflection of enthusiasm/support. The people have a right to make police report, so i think Uthaya’s supporters should have followed UMNO youth’s style and organised it nationwide.
i also wondered about the fiancee/wife label. I can only assume they are legally married but not gone through the religious rites.
Symbolic reasons or just following UMNO Youth’s style of political harassment ? It would make sense to do so in multiple places but to do so in one police station is not just stupid but also invite trouble.
Even common sense tells that having a few hundred ppl marching to police station is akin to challenge the law.
As for Utaya, well what I know is that he is NOT married legally or otherwise. That gal is just someone he is close to. Notice also how she also appeared in the scene only recently….ever wondered abt this too ?
I think they did make police reports nationwide over some other issue, so i’m not sure why this time want to converge in brickfields, an indian area.
well, i still remember since the day Uthaya was ISA’ed, the fiancee is being regularly interviewed. That’s more than 16 months now. So, what’s your take on this? err…is it me, or are we gossiping about two people’s marital status? 🙂
